So who else drove over a plastic garbage bag?

Welp, so as the title says drove over a black plastic garbage bag apparently while pulling into the sunoco to get gas. Had no idea at first, pulled in started to smell shit burning was hoping it was just in the air.. Welp nope, smoke started billowing out from under the car, thought car was on fire.

Then to my left i see a black garbage bag blowing away (whats left of it) and the lovely indian guy at the gas station comes out to say it was stuck under my car when i pulled in. Checked underneath and you can see melted plastic on the drivers side cat/header area.

I have to say, was scary at first.... Thinking your car is on fire at a gas station isnt always a pleasant thought.. lol.

Now it smells horrific, but ive been trying to burn most of it off and its getting better.

So who else has sucked up some bags on their cars besides me ?

Good luck. It's gonna take months before it burns it away to get rid of the smell. I had that happen to my fbody. I just bought a new exhaust.

Just put the car on a lift etc, let it run for a few minutes, and a metal spatula or something and clean it off while hot.

I had that happen years ago. You can use one of those metal pot scrubber things, not steel wool the kind that is like woven flat metal threads.

An electric sander with medium grit disk might work too.

Get it off ASAP vs burning it off, the smell may permeate your car and linger.

I ran over sheet plastic once in a 540i on the freeway. I immediately pulled over, it was already melted all over the exhaust.
I was not happy.

Look on the bright side. It’s far better than getting a skunk caught up in the exhaust. Take my word for it

Yep, ran over one in my SS a few years ago. It melted over the cats and was a huge mess. Also hit a skunk in that car and had skunk spray down the side. Was quite the nightmare.

Ran over one in my GTO. It melted just before my mufflers. The smell lasted 2 weeks before I got it on a lift and removed as much as I could with a wire brush. Even then I noticed a feint smell for another week or so. Awful!

Heat gun and wire brush might be the best combo
