Spark Plugs Again

FBO car. LTR6IX-11 or LTR5IX-11. Tuner is telling me to run the LTR6 but sounds like stock is the LTR5??

Ted Jeanetty told me to run the 6’s. He’s not tuning it but I guess I would trust his word. Just seems weird.

You running 91?

Won’t you just have to replace them more often with the colder plug?

Gonna run E-85 when I can. That’s where I’m confused though. I keep getting told to run the LTR6 but the stock replacement is the LTR5. I’m sure there is a reason my I’m being pushed toward the LTR6 but I have yet to get a thorough answer.

A cooler plug will be less prone to detonation but will foul sooner than a stock plug.

But its likely the difference between changing the plugs at 100k versus at 50k miles.

I'm sure he told you that because he's bumped up the timing. Log it and see. If you get any knock, change the plugs, if not stick with oe heat range.

I think it adds a layer of protection, I just don’t know how it would effect the E.

i think you're making it more complicated than it needs to be. ive been using the 5s for the last 10k miles with bolt ons and ethanol. 0 issues on gas or e85. i drive the car everywhere in the summer.

I was more so just curious about why if so many are running the stock ac delco plugs with full bolt ons why sole are suggesting a step colder. Not so just curious as to a scientific reason. This tuner has a pretty solid rep out here so I’m sure he has good reason.

I ran factory AC Delco plugs with my bolt on, E85 setup. Car ran great with no issues and I even drove it through the winter on E as well.

Nothing weird about going on step colder with these bolt ons. Its pretty standard practice. The more you modify the colder the plug will be. In time you may also have to run tighter gaps if you are making enough power.

What plugs do the zl1s run stock.

I’m stil running stock plugs as well. Has anyone noticed the car taking more timing with the colder plug?

The LT4 uses 6 range (one step colder than ss), with my round of bolt on stuff, I did NGK LTR7IX-11, the first thing I was told to change by Vengeance before tunning... something I did notice is that these cars pull timing even in factory form unless running a boost additive. The new plugs just compensated for the additional heat in the cylinder, without them, I probably would be pulling even more timing. Should be noted, they also come pregapped about the same as factory specs which is what really matters to prevent fouling, they get plenty of heat the stay clean and a nice large gap to burn as much fuel as possible without any blowout what so ever.

If you want to run more timing, E50 did the trick for me.... I have a very happy fuel system 2900 psi at the rail, 80psi low side, inj around 5.4ms, and 23° of timing at wot every single time.
