I have no doubt that the V8 Camaro’s are fast and very capable. Drive a “regular” car then hop into the Camaro that can break the rear loose in the first few gears. Yes, it is very possible to become accustomed to the power/speed. I know it helps me that I don’t drive mine everyday.

Regarding the Mustang GT, I’ve put quite a few miles on a 2020 GT and I don’t think it stacks up to the SS. I did like the car and the 5.0 sounds great from the factory but the speed/power isn’t there in comparison. It just seems much more tame and less capable. Car doesn’t handle as well, felt heavier IMO, not as race like and it feels less powerful.

I had an old Ford Taurus for a while... It was a POS sort of rental company spec that I got for free from my dad when he got a new car.
Now THAT car felt fast... In fact I felt like I was going 90 on the interstate... while going 65... I always felt like I was flying around way over the speed limit...
Perception is everything.

The big block and drag radials on the Taurus never threw any red flags for you??

Yes, perception is everything. The difficult part is an individual’s lack of control over that perception.

Sometimes this car can pleasantly surprise me with how fast it can be. Other times I feel accustomed to it.

I guess the surrounding makes a difference since your perception would be different.

A funny story....
The Tourus ended up getting rear ended while my wife was driving it. I had a wire holding the trunk closed. A deer had hit the front so there was damage there too. I was driving my son somewhere and we came to a traffic light with a left turn lane. But just before that was an entrance to a business driveway on my right with a lane for them to turn left in front of me.
I thought I was at my left turn lane... put my blinker on and proceeded to turn into oncoming traffic. I corrected immediately but not before the trunk opened....
My son was hysterical... I was hysterical... here I was in this banged up piece of crap.. trunk opened.. blinker on... the wipers were on the same stalk so I had turned the wipers on... and driving into the oncoming traffic....
At that time I was still driving big trucks... specializing in heavy oversized machinery... so it was just the perfect storm of humility....
I bet the other drivers perception of me was... interesting

I dont really need the Camaro to be fast. I just need it to sound great... accelerate crisply... and be fun to row through the gears.
I likely drive my F-250 faster than any normal person would. I never get good fuel economy. I go too fast and have little restraint when it comes to just going around people. I belong in a big truck with square tires to keep me out of trouble.
Im sure the guys who are tracking their cars get to know what the limits of their Camaros feel like. Anyone actually driving at the limit like that on the street is misguided. It makes you a better driver to have some safe run off other than trees and kids on bicycles.

Which is the odd thing since they put up similar numbers although the Camaro is still a tad faster.

The real world comparisons I've seen on youtube though the Camaro has more low end power and usually has the edge BUT the Mustang GT eventually makes up for it and it catches up quick. There is a good comparison video on youtube two guys drive each others cars to compare. The Camaro SS owner thought the Mustang catches up in a hurry once it gets going.

Still the raw power of the Camaro and Challenger Scatpack I would take over the current GT though!

All debates aside. If I had the money I would need a few Morton buildings.. And Id have at least one of each of them.

I drove one of my friend's Mustang GT PP1 and I feel like the low-end power is alright. It might not be as strong as the Camaro's low-end, but it's not as bad as some here make it sound.

That said, by the time you can rev the thing up, you are way above the speed limit. I kind of enjoy the fact that the Camaro gets going easily even in low RPM.

High RPM works great in cars like my RX-8. I can bounce that thing to 9k RPM and I wouldn't have to worry about losing my car. That said, I wanted to try something different and that's why I got the C7 and now the Camaro.

It has a linear powerband. That’s how the engine works.

Get a soler throttle controller and you can make it feel as fast or slow as you like... the power IS there. The stock fly by wire throttle is mapped soft right off the bottom on purpose and the throttle plate does not open linearly with the pedal.

The Soler can take the throttle from no where near linear all the way up to neck snapping from the weight of your foot on the pedal.... how ever you like it.

Really!!.... we are digging up a 5 year old thread?
I would think there are better topics out there by now that are newer.

One thing the Mustang has in its favor is that it's very tune and mod friendly.
