How Did Your Baby Get You In Trouble?

Just as the title says, let's hear those stories of how your Camaro got you in trouble with the fine boys in blue by having perhaps a bit too much fun in your car...

I'll start, I was coming home with my girlfriend on a Sunday afternoon from a local car show (one of the few that actually took place with COVID) last summer and I was driving a newly repaved road with some decent elevation changes and some nice curves. Unfortunately the speed limit is only 35 mph and as you guys know, it doesn't take much effort for these cars to far exceed speed limits even if you aren't necessarily trying to give her the beans.
I wish I could tell a much cooler version of a story that I was really hauling the mail the length of the road but that wasn't the case. A truck was going under the speed limit for miles and when he finally turned out of my way I gave my Z just a little squeeze (which is now 20-30 mph over, like I said, doesn't take much) and as I was coasting over a hill to get back down to the speed limit, a patrol Charger was waiting for me on the other side. My girlfriend yells, "Cop... Cop" and yep... I see him and look over at my HUD and I'm easily north of the speed limit. Now at this point, I'm thinking I could easily put my 650 hp to use and be out of sight before he can even get turned around to catch up to me as I was only minutes from home and he at the time was busy talking to the homeowner whose lawn he was parked out in front of waiting to bust a speeder, but I continued to coast back down to the speed limit, let him catch back up, and once he did he got right on my tail running my plate, then lights me up. I pull over, turn off the car, and place my hands on top of the steering wheel (I had never been pulled over before but my grandfather was a police officer back in the day and taught me what to do to show respect as well as my regard for the officer's safety in the event of a traffic stop).

Officer says, "Hi there I had you going 20 over is there a reason you were going so fast?" I reply, "No sorry sir, I'm just coming home from a car show with the girlfriend and was just having a little fun" He says, "Yeah I mean I get it, you got a sweet car and the road is freshly paved but I just can't have you going that fast." I say I understand and give him my license and proof of insurance. He runs everything comes back to my car and says, "so explain your license plate, I don't get it?" I say oh (with a laugh) it's TIMID8R like "Intimidator"... I'm a NASCAR fan and Dale Earnhardt is one of my favorites and the officer says, "Oh yeah? That's awesome! I actually met Dale as a kid with my dad... well I'm gonna let you off with a warning, please slow down" I proceeded to thank him for being so kind and generous as I was fully accepting I was in the wrong and prepared to serve my punishment of a speeding ticket but instead I fired the beast back up, stuck my left arm out the window to thank him once more, and off we drove home to enjoy the pizza we had picked up on the way home for dinner

I was very lucky to have a great police officer who reciprocated the respect I gave him and I left the encounter with nothing but a really neat story to tell my grandkids someday.

Cute story OP. Dale was the only reason I watched & I stopped watching NASCAR after that race.

Just gonna cut to the chase.

I’m a transportation design student and it has been stressing me out a lot recently (extremely heavy workload with minimal time to take for myself). So I go out to hit some backroads to get some fresh air and just let loose to go back home with a fresh mind. I’m driving the car relatively hard and to be honest. I’m surprised I didn’t get pulled over from THAT!

Anyways, so about 30 minutes pass by and I decide to head back home. This time, I was keeping it low key and not accelerating hard whatsoever. Come to my surprise, there was a cop in the opposite lane who saw my car well before I could see him (driving on a hill). Immediately put his lights on and got me.... got me going 19 over. Thankfully he was chill and only got me for 5 over and no points! This was my very first time being pulled over and my first ticket!

Btw this just happened this past Sunday LOL

When I had a C6 vette, I hardly ever turned a cops eye. The camaro is a ticket magnet, and I drive like it is, for the most part. Several small towns around us have speed traps, which are always being used. Thank goodness its been a while since I had a ticket, but the memories of their guns drawn, and skidding cruisers tires lingers.

My old Z28 did. I was younger and dumber with no kids. Plus just over 300hp is a lot easier to "push". 455hp is a bit more sobering, so I'm less likely to gun it when I know the consequences are more severe.

When I picked up the car, I got two speeding camera tickets. This is more due to the insane number of cameras in Alberta, though. I got 2 in my DD Honda Accord as well for going not too much over the limit.

And that's why I picked up a radar detector. If they are legal in your area, you should grab one. If it saves you from one ticket, it has already paid for itself.

Leaving Wawa (convenient store) just turned onto the road and I have about a 2 block drive through lights to make another left off the road. Officer traveling in the opposite direction IN traffic makes a tire screeching U-turn to chase me down. He pulls me over directly outside of the building I work at.
I asked him, "What are you doing, what's wrong?"
Cop, "I pulled you over because I saw your tint."
Me, "You raced through traffic because you saw my tint?"
Cop, "Tint in this state is illegal."
Me, "No it isn't, it was installed by the manufacturer, I bought the car this way."
Cop, "Well I'll give you a warning for the tint but you have to have it removed, oh I see your inspection is due."
Me, "Its 2 days over and I'm scheduled for inspection, isn't there a 30 day grace period right now?"
Cop, "Well its due."
This ass clown comes back to me with a $155.00 ticket for my inspection being 2 days over due even when I had proof that an inspection has been scheduled!
Cop, "If you have your car inspected in 10 days and plead not guilty AND come to court, I'll drop it."

Cops are still people, and people can be assholes.

My coworkers got a good laugh taking photos of me outside of our facility.

Even in tour mode?

Here's what I did for the phone, btw, both driver and passenger side. That said, this topic is for trouble with your city's or town's finest, not significant others

Tell me more about these phone pockets. Do you have a link where I can order them? Lol

And yeah, haha. I haven’t gotten in trouble with the Camaro just yet. This car is not understated. Unless I’m 100% sure I’m in the clear, I stick to the speed limit. Car is still fun going 0-80!

Sounds like you need a different girlfriend.

I know if someone complains about that in my car, they have the choice of either staying in the car and stay quiet or GTFO.

You can get them on Amazon. You will also need to get some Delcro tapes from your local hardware store so you can remove the tape they have on the pocket and replace them with the Delcro tape. It will then just stick to the carpeting like arpad has shown.
