OP - I would have them do a video walk around, having the person show all blemishes. Ask for a report on the maintenance history, tire depths, etc. Black in particular loves to hide paint/body issues, especially with the reflections in those photos. I think it is a decent price IF that is the exact car you want and everything checks out.

I'm very cautious of those websites where you buy cars online. The prices seem semi-inflated because they have to factor in their delivery. Plus I don't think you can negotiate on price which is half the fun. $21K for an I4 seems high to me. Granted I got my car in 2019, but even then I only paid $17K for the V6 option with 40K miles. It's my daily and one of three cars I own so it does fine for me.

Looking close to home I found a 2018 2LT with the 1LE performance package for $28K. I'm sure you can talk them down a grand, so now you're only looking at a $6k difference. https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/l-Used...ting=295480618

Also found a 2019 1LT V6 for about the same price as your I4. About the same mileage too. https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/l-Used...ting=290672197

I would shop around a bit more. Save and get what you really want. You never know what will pop up near you. Or you can fly into LAX or SJO, drive back. Only a two day trip. Make a side stop in Vegas.

I'm curious if some of you people read or acknowledge anything at all. The original car in question is listed for just over $19k. OP has stated the a 2LT is preferred, but 1LT is a possibility. The car HAS to be black with the RS package, and manual preferred. Budget is about $25K or less... so where do some of these "recommendations" come from? LOLOL

When it's someone else's money, it's easy to upsell!

I'm semi-local to the car in question but I'm sure I could check it out until much later in the week/the weekend (so I'm hesitant to offer).

Can confirm with black being a pain. I think my car looks great from 10 ft, but you get right up on it, and there are plenty of blemishes. I didn't notice a lot of them because the car wasn't perfectly clean when I looked at it. I'm not saying this shouldn't deter you from what you want, just know it will have issues and that's OK.

Agree. 4 cylinder. OP, car is 10 minutes from my house if you want some eyes on it...but 4 cylinder is probably a deal breaker.

However, I recently came across one that was only $19k at 32,000 miles. Carfax: looks clean, no title issues, no accidents, and had regular oil changes. Primarily driven in Michigan. But, it's located in Illinois and I'd have to fly to buy it. I should add, it's from CarLotz, and I found it through cars.com. It's not CPO and I think there's no warranty or it's expired.

Is this deal too good to be true? Is there a way to get a PPI without having to fly there first? Any general advice on how to approach this? This is my very first Camaro and I hope this is the one. Thank you!!

It’s clearly the car you really want, so work out a PPI with the seller. I’m not sure how these “online only” deals work, but there’s gotta be a way to do a PPI. Ask them to take it to a Chevy dealer and YOU pay for the PPI so the inspector is your agent looking out for your best interests. So what if it costs a couple hundred, the peace of mind is worth it. A Chevy dealer will know the model, and can put it on a hoist to fully inspect it. Their body shop can spot unreported damage that someone here willing to help you out with an inspection can’t.

The bumper to bumper has likely run out but there’s probably some power train warranty left. 60 months from in-service date, which can be found on the carfax.

My guess on the “deal” price is that it’s a manual. 95% of people can’t even drive them anymore, and the ones that can want a V8.

Looks nice in the pics if it’s as-advertised. Could use some cleanup under the hood but otherwise seems decent.

Good luck!

If you can do that/send me videos and I end up pulling the trigger - I will fly to Chicago, get the car, and personally greet you so I can give you some Texan BBQ and goodies. DM'ing you!

And also I love how everyone's like "dude it's a 4 cylinder, that's a dealbreaker!" It's my very first "sports" car (and will be the very 2nd car I've ever owned), so I figured I'd go with something more fun. I just love Camaros for there aesthetics/style and need a daily driver that's just zippy enough for me. The i4 turbo was tons of fun to drive!!

If you enjoyed the i4 turbo, go ahead and get one! It's still a Camaro. It's going to handle great. It's still faster than the majority of cars on the road. And it'll still be lots of fun to drive. That's what it's all about. Heck, for only being the second car you've ever owned, it's probably a wise place to start with performance cars.

Thank you for the sound advice and recognizing that's the exact car that I wanted. I originally wanted the LS. When I asked to test drive one at a chevy dealership, they put me in a 2LT. I was blown away by ambient door lighting, head-up speedometer display, and leather seats. The i4 turbo already blew my mind (I drive a nissan altima with a defective CVT). And the RS had 20 inch rims and those LED daytime lights are soooo cool!! So from that point on, it had to be a black 2LT with RS package. I went with the M6 because of the A8 shudder problems. I'll give them a call tomorrow and see if I can work out a PPI!

Nothing wrong with the T4 and V6 variants. They have become legit fun cars, and are significantly cheaper all said and done. They are in the same price range as your average (and more boring usually) 4 door and some 2 door cars. And being only your second vehicle, this will be a damn nice ride

You're welcome! If this one falls through don't the let the A8 issue keep you from considering one with it if it meets all your other criteria. Look for one that's still under powertrain warranty and get TSB 18-NA-355 done (for free) by a dealer. That's the "flush" that everyone talks about. It fixes the issue, especially if the car hasn't actually done it, or if you catch it early and don't delay taking it in for the flush once it starts. Wife's CTS did it at 41K miles and I took it in immediately. No more problems.

BTW, I looked at the CarFax, that car went "in-service" (sold to first owner) on 6-29-18. The bumper to bumper is still in effect and will expire in a few months, 6-29-21. You're great on the powertrain warranty, it's valid til 6-29-23, so a little over two more years! You can call any Chevy dealer and give them the VIN and they can look it up to confirm those dates if you like.

Get a deposit on it contingent on a PPI by a Chevy dealer of your choosing in that area, at your expense, with deposit fully refundable for any reason the PPI finds. Could be a bent wiper blade, just get the wording "for any defect found in PPI and personal inspection". I looked at their web ad again and it appears they have a brick and mortar location, so there must be someone there who can drive it to a Chevy dealer with you even having to be there. If it passes that, THEN fly up with a cashier's check and be ready to drive it home! They should not charge you IL sales tax, but they should be able to issue you a temp IL plate so you can drive it home. I bought my XT5 in Buffalo NY and NY did not charge me tax (I'm a MI resident), and they issued a temp plate so I could drive it home. I even drove through Canada (its shorter) with the temp plate and had no problems with Canada or US Customs.

Keep us posted, good luck, and have fun with it!

Oh, one more thing...

email to socialmedia@gm.com with the VIN and ask for the "build sheet". Within a day they will send you the factory build sheet which will tell you the car's production date, and every RPO code (the DNA...everything it was built with). I got more than a few build sheets from them when I was looking at cars.

I noticed their description mentioned "white pearl center stripe", which is not on that car. So either someone removed it or they have the wrong info, which could mean it's not really a 2LT. Doubtful, but when I see a description that doesn't match what I see it sends up a red flag!
