Question Tail pipe color difference

I have a 2021 ZL1 with 1000 k on it I noticed when cleaning the inside of the tail pipes that the two outboard pipes have much more black carbon suit In them than the inboard ones..... any explanation?

Running in track mode all of the time, only the outboard ones get dirty.

Track mode uses only outer 2 pipes, mine does the same thing since I have the exhaust locked in track mode

When the exhaust is set in stealth, the 2 inboard pipes are used. When sport or track is used, the 2 outboard pipes are used. I'm not sure about tour but maybe the 2 inboard ones are used. Mine is either set to stealth or track when I drive 95% of the time is set to track and my 2 outboard pipes are very black.

I'm not one to clean tail pipes because it's a waste of time, IMO. I spend enough time cleaning the brake dust.

But even if you set the exhaust to stealth when you go full throttle, it'll switch to the 2 outboard pipes.

I use a (don't laugh) toilet brush. I bought one just to use on my tail pipes.

Seems to work!

The outer pipes that are controlled by the NPP valves are not muffled, so when the valves open, those are nearly (short of the minimal perforated sections) straight pipes downstream from the secondary cats.

These are the products I use to clean the tips, in increasing order of strength and abrasiveness and depending on how dirty they are:

Tub O' Towels
Nevr Dull
Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish

Metal polish. I think that I'm currently using Mother's.

The tips are the last thing I wipe down with the microfiber towel before tossing it into the wash bin. If needed, a dab of any metal polish will help.

Someone posted the idea of painting the inside of all 4 tips black so they match all the time. I think I will end up going this route.
