So I was thinking and I dont know if anyone else mentioned it... But was the car being warmed up by the sun and the imperfection is different expansion rates between the steel and the plastic?
Also my car is Satin Steel. the nose has some visible imperfections in the metal flake. To the point where you can see it from several feet away. Looks like someones hand prints but its down deep in the paint. And the coup that was there on the lot had a clearly different looking quality to the paint between the plastic and steel. None of it enough for me to pass on the cars. But the paint on my F-250 is superior to the Camaro. But if you go onto the Ford Truck forums youll find people complaining about their paint quality as well.

While warming and cooling from environment can factor in, it would seem that they would have to adjust the gaps for that based on body color...

Normal. It's a Camaro, not a Ferrari.

Actually, this is not just GM. A lot of cars made in America in general will have little fit and finish issues that will upset perfectionists.
I know that hood alignment isn't particularly good on Honda Accords, for example, which are manufactured in the US. Quote:

The best cars of my youth were all bought used and somewhat beat. Often at or around 100,000 miles because thats what I could afford. Wasnt afraid to mash on it or drive it in the snow seeing as they were always my only car. The more perfect they were the less enjoyable to actually have fun with.
I had an RX-7 in 1985 which was my first new car. They were really fun little cars. It was Charcoal Black. It lived outside but I always kept it covered unless it was dirty. Then I moved with my now wife into an apartment building. I got a couple little dings in the lot and I ended up selling the car over not being able to tolerate seeing it damaged like that. Im hoping I can enjoy the Camaro without stressing over cosmetics... but its not going to be easy.

Yeah, it is a curse. There are times I wish I didn’t care about my car, but I wouldn’t care about it if it was in poor shape either haha. |
