2018 ZL1 low trap speed
Hello all,
I bought a 2018 ZL1 A10 Convertible about 2 years ago, and decided to take it to the drag strip at PBIR today (I haven't been to a track in over a decade). Granted it's more of a beach car....but I wanted to see what it did. It has 31,000 miles. I have a Rotofab, Phastek lowering springs and forged wheels in a stock size that weigh the same as the stock wheels (running fresh Goodyear Supercar F3s at 32 psi). Other than an NPP fuse pull, it is otherwise stock. My best run was my first (I only had time to run twice and I spun the second time) was my best: Conditions when I ran at 11:00 a.m.: 83.21 degrees, 61% Humidity, 30.22" pressure. 21' track elevation. This works out to: Density Altitude: 1560 feet Relative Density: 95.51 % I did a short burnout and used launch control (1,200 RPM, 12% slip). I ran: R/T .211 60' 1.852 330' 5.065 1/8 7.700 MPH 93.27 1000' 9.969 ET 11.894 MPH 117.07 My question is simple: am I imagining, or is that MPH really low? Any thoughts on what to check (I saw a video on purging supercharger coolant, so I will look into that first). Thanks.

Is it possible you're lifting a little early on the top end of the track? its not the best of track conditions due to the temp and humidity but I would have thought your trap speed should be just a little higher even in those conditions, low 120s.

It doesn't look like it based on his 1/8mi trap. It's low through the entire run. It's a convertible which is heavier and it might be closing throttle to reduce torque. I would check to make sure the air is purged from the IC system and maybe even try mixing in some 100 octane.

I was there with you...the Toyota guy!!!
I remember your coolant in your tank was low. I know the coolant route/storage for the sc is different, but its possible air in the sc is causing it to pull timing. It takes a special tool to refill coolant and eliminate all of the air from the supercharger...the dealership has it unfortunately.. |

Yep, the ADMv2 reservoir tank that’s discounted on the group buy right now. Bleeding the system couldn’t be any easier. Just take the lid off with the engine idling.

Yes, my coolant was low. I filled both tanks to the appropriate fill line yesterday. I'm pretty sure I felt it pull timing. It was noticeable. I suspect there is air in the sc coolant system. I bought that little adapter linked above (hopefully I get it before next weekend). I also have a fused jumper that I'm going to use to activate the sc water pump. I'll pull the front wheels up on my ramps to elevate the front of the engine, and purge it from home. I have a feeling its going to need it. I may go back on 3/12 if I can get off from work.

If this is your issue. You might as well go and buy a supercharger coolant reservoir to stop this from happening again.

So I received the adapter from Dedicated Motorsports, cut a 2 liter bottle in half, and figured out which connector to jump at the fuse box to turn on the supercharger coolant pump, and I purge the air from the system. There was a huge amount of air to be purged.
Now I just need to test the car to see if it worked.

Which spot did you jump for the supercharger Coolant pump?
