Ported lt2 vs Ported msd results
Hey guys I haven’t seen anyone post results of the real difference between a well ported lt2 and ported msd. To start out I made the thread for what all is needed to put the lt2 on these cars and the power difference. So now in the name of r&d and the prospect of more power I thought I’d go ahead and see if the msd could make a decent power jump over the lt2. Well ordered up a new msd and really took my time porting it working on the floor of the runner a good bit(more willing to try things a little different on my personal stuff than a customers) to try and get a better line of sight to the valve.
Well strapped the car to the dyno and made a pull immediately yanked the lt2 swapped my ported 95mm and sensors over and bolted it down. Took roughly 30-45min to get it swapped. Got it back up to temp and made a rip. Pretty happy with the results. Made roughly 7-8 rwhp peak to peak and around 15rwhp 6k+. What I’m most surprised and I guess I attribute it to the attention to the port job was that it made more power and torque basically through the whole pull. Usually the msd is a little soft down low. Tune didn’t need any changes afr was still dead on. I believe I’m going to order a 103mm Tb and do another back to back and see if it makes a few more hp. 2019 camaro ss a10 Mods are ported msd, ported 95tb, rotofab dry, 2in se headers, e85, ati 10% ud, tuned by yours truly.

Great comparison. I’m still impressed with how well the LT2 performed compared to the MSD.

I reckon $1000 (difference in MSD pricing vs LT2)for 15 plus hp past 6k is worth it for folks who are racing or beating theirs all the time any day of the week. Thinking I will stick with my LT2, just wondering if having it ported is worth $350.

So a little less difference, but still $700 for those peak HP, which does matter if you're drag racing a lot. Probably worth the difference.

Gpi did this test on a youtube video I believe a few months ago, but its always good to hear results from a private party.

Dang, I would save the money. 1 mph can be a weather variance or shifting inconsistencies, or spinning.
