An EV that performs similarly to a Camaro SS costs far more.
I mean, a Bolt is already in the SS price range, or at least LT1 range if you have some government rebates. Sent from toaster or something

It should be clear to all, that acquiescence to contol is pushed Hard. Do people not want to own themselves, their own property? Do they want to be guinea pigs? with activities monitored? someone else's product? A lot of these things should be wake-up calls. I want to turn the antenna off, and fill up my car up with cash. |

You're fooling yourself if you think driving around a new SS isn't every bit of a status symbol as driving around an EV. Maybe not to the same people, but it definitely is. for every middle aged guy who could afford a new SS who thinks some model S driver thinks they're better than they are and got it to show off ...there are tons of 20 something drivers buying some I4/V6 or maybe not even a camaro at all and looking at that older guy driving around their SS and thinking the same thing. edit: or you go to places like jalopnik and they think anyone who buys any new car is doing it for the status symbol and the only right choice is to buy used |

Second of all, I just looked up the price for Model 3 Performance. It's around the same as a ZL1 before discounts and rebates, but given GM cars, you can usually negotiate some money off, and I believe you stop getting rebates for EV above a certain price bracket in some places. Either way, SS can be had for cheaper than Model 3 Performance. Third of all, again, you are ass-uming I am driving my car as a status symbol. If that's the case, I would not be found in cars like a Mazda6 or a Honda Accord, and yet I drove and drive them, no problem. I drive a Camaro SS for the enjoyment, especially on the track. Status symbol is implying that I am seeking approval from others. I don't, or I would probably be in a BMW right now. It's so much better at showing off. I applaud those who can drive better than me in a slower car. I just like cars and driving. There was a random old guy who thought the same thing and talked to me about it. Let me tell you, I actually take offence in this assumption. IDGAF about what you think I got my car for, because you don't even know me. Sent from toaster or something

Those people in a Corolla who probably don't even know how to change a spare don't get to tell me my Camaro is a status symbol. I value my hobbies more than what others think. That's a very tiring way to live your life. Sent from toaster or something

It’s probably a bit of a long shot, but I’ve been hoping for major progress with CO2 fuels from direct capture.

fyi, You dont need the highest end model 3 to match SS performance. Any of the dual engine trims (50-55k) do. The performance trim surpass the SS and surpass the ZL1. With sub 3 second 0-60. I wasn't bothering to include that (or the zl1). If you didn't agree with the poster i was responding to, then great, but you replied like you did and i'm not doing background checks between each post to make sure they're keeping track of the convo and not just cherry picking some aspect of it. edit: and " IMO something counts a status symbol if you bought it because it's expensive or it is a famous brand, you have zero understanding on how it actually works, and you make fun of people who can't afford it or don't want to use it." A status symbol is just something that allows you to show others you're better than they are without having to say it directly. V8 muscle cars have been used as such in their own communities for years, it's not a secret that it's common to hear about v4/v6's not being real and only v8's are real versions of (camaro, mustang, etc). The only purpose of that is to elevate your status among the rest. Any expensive car can be a status symbol to someone who cares about cars. Status symbols have to be recognized by the "lower class" in order to work. Are tesla owners going around and throwing their teslas in non-tesla drivers faces? Or are are we being a bit defensive? I would rank bmw drivers higher than tesla drivers in terms of driving something simply to show off how well off better people they are than others. Tesla drivers have to at least have all of the quality control issues they've had to stick thru hurting their position as well as geographical limitations. Either way we're all making a statement and using our vehicles as status symbols to someone because we were able to get something a lot of people can't and chose it vs lesser options. I really don't like generalizing 0-60 as 'performance'. It's a very narrow aspect of performance. The SS and 1le Camaro's were designed for track use. When considering the charging logistics, and the track mode performance hit a model 3 takes after reaching steady state, the performance envelop of a SS is far greater than any model 3. at which point, track performance is not really relevant to most people who are in the comparing car performance crowd. |
