They are not going to hook as well as a MT at the track.

My next time at a different track, I was struggling to get traction. Again, maybe the prep wasn't as good as could be. I did manage a spinning 1.62 60' though. I will give them another try tomorrow, if they don't work, I will consider moving on to a set of MTs. I'm not trying to say these tires are bad, the rubber feels very soft, I'm willing to give them a chance. I am definitely happy with the way they feel on the road.
MT ET Street R's are as good as it gets for a drag radial but not great to drive on the street. The Nitto 555R2s are a great all around drag radial, just won't hook as well as a MT ET Street R. To get the most out of the Nitto's you have to heat them up really good so a good burnout is required, about twice as long as you would a MT ET Street R.

Since this thread is still going on I figured maybe I ask how does the Nitto 555r2 compare to the Toyo r888r? Anyone ever tired these two and have a preference as to which they like better and why? I believe the downside to the Toyo r888r is that there a bit pricey and people have mentioned they have quite a bit of road noise (not sure how bad the road noise is). I’m curious to know how they are in the rain, how long they last, or how well they put the power down compared to the Nittos but something tells me that the Nittos are the better well rounded dual purpose drag radial tire as Z OH 6 has mentioned.

For me with a compairson was very close with the II comeing out on top. Like a few tenths but it was their and its a better tire all around to me. Quite and very streetable.

What’s the best PSI to run on this tire to get optimal traction?
I know my 555R1s liked 23psi.
I’m running the same 23psi on my RIIs and spin a lot.
I went from a 305/35/20 555R to a 305/45/17 RII and so far the R1s hook better from a 1st gear roll. Any feedback will be appreciated. I’m going to try 20 psi

I’m running them in 305s, hooks better than my ps4s that I had before this! I can deadhook a 40 roll, and maybe even a 30 roll once the weather heats up. They’re tolerable in the rain, just take it easy. And don’t do snow!

Edit: this is all on the street, can’t speak about the track

How bad is tire noise with the 555RII, say, compared to the PS4S?

I have pulled 1.75 60fts on the street according to dragy with the 305/35/20 555r2. Not saying that is stellar but pretty decent for a unprepped street launch. They did need a little time to break in. I too initially thought the 555r1 was better until the R2 broke in. 23psi is where I run mine.

Glad to see the Nittos are back in stock now...been waiting nearly 6 weeks. Just ordered a pair of 555r2 to go with my G2s up front. Unfortunately still waiting on Weld Racing to get me the wheels. They pushed my date from next week to end of March :(

I use the G2 in 295 40 18 for winter tires. Put them on last October and went 1 last time to 1/8 mile track on a low 40 degree day. Did smoky white devil burnout and they actually dead hooked off the line. Ran a 7.65 pass. Ran a couple of 7.7 passes with a passenger same day. Went to track this past Saturday, did a smoky burnout(same tires) left on third yellow and tires went up in smoke all over the track. Nothing could be done in the warmer weather 80 plus degrees to make them stick. They just got greasy. When I got home I put on the 555r2 in size 285/40/18 on 10inch wide rims and also installed lower trailing arms. Had plans to do that before TNT but work and weather prevented. Next TNT i can get to is on the 27th this month but already can tell they are gripping better than the g2.
