Before and after pictures of my fix for the double-ugly plastic center cap. The top photo is the final result.

I would do the gaps on the outer edge between the spoke pies as well.
Edit: Oh ok I see now. I'd like the center black with what I described above. It would accentuate the design more. |

I personally would go with stock colored lugs rather than black, but opinions vary!

The way the wheel looks now should be the way it should come from the factory! The black cap looks cheap to me.

I like the way you set up your wheels. where did you get the black lug nuts and center cap?
Thanks,

These are the parts shown in the photo: 2016-2018 RS center cap McGard 24216 locking lug nuts 4x 64034 McGard lug nuts 4x black nylon caps The details: The center cap is a factory product, same type as came on my 2016 RS wheels. I found a "new" set on eBay for $40 shipped. They actually had light signs of use, but that was ok with me since the other factory options I looked at were priced at around $150 for a set of four! The lug nuts are McGard. For the lock nut, the factory black locking nut set of four will work, and McGard set 24216 appears to be roughly equivalent. Black covers (hardware store?) slip over the locking nut - not necessarily crazy about the appearance, but I think it will keep road debris from accumulating in the lock groove of the nut. There were two "black chrome" McGard options for the M14x1.5 non-locking lugs with the "bulge" cone seat. I went with product number 64034 (four needed), which were slightly longer (1.945") -- not only did it look better when I compared it side by side with the shorter option, I also think the longer ones might help give the tire shop a better chance of getting the socket on the nut without hitting the wheel. The other McGard option is 64074, which is 1.635" long and listed as the designated part number for sixth gen Camaros. However, I contacted McGard customer service and they confirmed that both length nuts were otherwise equivalent. (There is a total of about half a pound difference in unsprung weight between the longer and shorter nuts, which I didn't see as significant in my daily driver application.) All of the McGard options were available on Amazon Prime, with free returns, which is how I was able to compare the various options. What does seem significant with these polished chrome McGard nuts, at least for this factory wheel, is to go with the nuts with the "bulge" cone seat. The regular cone seat nuts from McGard have a smaller circumference, resulting in 100% of the cone on the nut being the contact area with the wheel. I tried a McGard kit with the regular cone seat nuts first and was concerned that they did not feel consistent in taking the final torque to 140. The "bulge" seat nuts torque down consistently, like the factory nuts. Based on my experience, and comments I have read in the forums, I'll only be using the "bulge" cone seat lug nuts on these wheels. One final note - I used the matte-finish Gorilla locking lug nuts on my 2016 RS. While those nuts looked good on that 56R wheel, I think the black chrome finish of the McGard lug nuts goes really well with the look of these polished aluminum wheels. |

Thanks Maverick for all the info. I photos were very helpful. I have my car on order with those wheels and definitely will be popping off the star "hub cap" once I get it.
Agreed, the black chrome finish looks real nice with this wheel. That is what I'll be going with!
