Since the pigtail comes through the grill why would he need to open the hood at all to hook it up?

I open mine from time to time, more of something to do than anything . That's why I just leave the hood latched but not closed completely.

Mine is in the trunk and connected directly to the +/- with ring terminals. The side panel is easily removed for the short harness to pass through. With the panel in position, there's 12" of harness exposed. I use an 8 ft extension to the Battery Tender Plus.

No need to leave the trunk lid open as the flat wire only slightly compresses the trunk seal.

I pull into my garage so the outlet is at the front of the car.

I connected my pigtail up front and go through the back open area by the wiper blades. Then the wire is on the glass not paint.

you can hook the permanent harness up to the battery and run it out the truck under the lid. you can close it on it there's enough foam it wont pinch it.

Nothing wrong with underhood or trunk, like has been said go with whatever works best for your setup.

I also used ring terminals direct on battery then I made a small hole in cover up panel that the wire feeds through, tucks away nicely then can pull out about another foot of wire and trunk closes fine without any pressure on the seal.

I wall mounted a plug directly behind the car. This way I still can easily walk in front of the car where my garage fridge and workbench are and on the left side where my toolbox is.

I would suggest using a Battery Minder which has a de-sulphurator mode and will extend the life and strength of a battery. My battery went from 60% to 90% in about 3 weeks....

i just use the access door in the carpet to access the battery. no need to add a hole.
