I have found a different location to mount the ground cable I removed the bolt from the water pump and added a 1/2" longer bolt to create a stud to mount the grounding cable on.

I ordered a 21" with 3/8ths (3/8ths is perfect). Plenty long enough. My 21" was actually 22.5" end to end.

This is the cable from gen5diy 20" you can route the cable under the fuse box this cable is a good length to use. Also I decided to double nut the terminal lug see new photo and I will also put a larger Fender washer on it today to cover the whole terminal

Well done and thanks for sharing another connection point for the engine ground. Happy hot starting! I must say this fix has given me new joy and confidence in my car. I no longer fear it will not start and strand me somehwere.

That is not the original bolt. The new bolt is 1/2" longer.

Good deal. I had the very same issue with a 1972 corvette. Body was all fiberglass, and after many years of not even wanting to go get gas due to being scared it wouldn't start I figured out that the engine was missing the main ground wire.... So after many years of stronger batteries, high torque starters, insulating gaskets under carburetor, etc... it turned out to be the missing ground wire... After that.. like you it started great no matter if it was hot or cold.. (usually started fine when cold, just not when it got hot).

I have a 2021, so not sure if this is still a potential issue for it, but good to know in case the car starts hard starting when hot.

So looks like the original bolt would have still worked if its just 1/2" longer.

I also have a 2021. Anyone know if Chevy has improved the starter and/or the ground wiring such that this is less likely to be a problem?
