The lash cap for the hpfp is only intended for correcting the preload when you install an aftermarket camshaft with a different fuel lobe than stock. That lash cap does not change the stroke of the hpfp, it's the fuel lobe that determines the stroke.

Did you notice the oil temp? Or water temp?

Water temp started at 185 then I hit it to 100 water temp climed to 187 when I let off then went to a max of went as high as 199 then began to cool back off down to 194 from the time I hit it till it died was about 37 seconds or so. Did 0-100 in 6.9 then I let off was graduely slowing to make a right hand turn turned right on to a road and the engine died.
Looks like I did not record oil temp, pressure yes. |

My guess?
Either the oil was too hot and thinned out, or detonation hammered the bearing centers and pinched the edges into the journal. The edges act like scrappers and you lose the oil boundary.

I was kinda thinking detonation too. 12.9 AFR on a boosted car is too lean IMO and meth distribution is too uneven to save the day.

Its possible for sure, I ran mine about 12.0 after my failures although mine was rich most of the time because of the Meth/Water.

Another Meth injected LT1 goes down, but I am a just a nutty conspiracy theorist.
![]() This is NOT an Oil viscosity issue. The most common reason rod bearings fail is detonation, or any form of too much cylinder pressure at the wrong time, i.e. hydraulics 12.5 to 12.9 AFR is far too lean, Especially with Meth. AFR should not be used, Lambda is what you should be tuning with and .82 Lamda (works out to 12.0 on Gasoline) is what I suggest, more powerful and engine longevity is increased. Meth distribution cylinder to cylinder is a REAL problem that can only be recorded by either 8 EGT sensors or 8 Wide band sensors. But, We know from all the Meth injected LT1 that have failed it is true. We have all the evidence every time an engine fails. Stop using a Fertilizer pump to supply your engine with Fuel or Octane, and I promise engine failures will be minimized to near Zero. Nothing Better than an adequate Direct Injection system and adequate octane to do a lot with a stock engine I have hundreds of LT1 builds many over 700 RWHP and not 1 failure. Maybe someone will read this and I can prevent 1 engine failure that would make my day. Happy New year everyone. Ted.

What’s that saying? A word from the wise? ie: Ted!!!
Some people just don’t listen and want to do what they see on YouTube. But remember those people on YouTube don’t care about their cars they only care about views.

I'm having the same conversation with a guy on youtube who's using meth and and almost at 800 sbe. I told him it's a matter of when not if his short block let's go. I'm hoping he's on here and reads some of these threads to hopefully save him some money and heartache.

Adding port is actually not expensive, less than half of what the XDI stuff goes for and the sky is the limit in terms of what you can fuel. I'm just trying to decide between Crawford and TooHighPSI setups.
