I’ve seen excessively rich do the same. Only one cylinder, the others looked unscathed.

That is a good point. The LT engines do not like running rich. Rich and too much timing will hurt a piston. I remember back in the early LS days guys burning up LS1's with Nitrous because of that.

Just as I was getting out of the LS game people were leaning out on nitrous and were saying the lands were happier. Did that pan out long term and stick?

Yep leaner and less timing seems to be the ticket.

Yeah.

& I think I mentioned this before, but a buddy of mine was getting his turbo LS set up for E85. I told him the fuel adder number to put in. Well, he missed a digit, got on it one time, AF ratio gauge bottomed out then BANG! completely melted a piston, and I mean completely. Rings sticking out of the top and all.

With the holidays and all still don't know how bad it is just yet, block, heads, ect? And the extent of the carnage is, not sure what to expect, is it time to add some inches and stroke it? Also wondering how much more of this tuner I can afford? Or if this just sometimes part of it? Not sure what or who to be mad at

I would send that file to a tuner that’s trusted with a good rep like Pray. Pay him to look it over and he will tell you if it’s the tuners fault or not.

I was thinking about doing that, I just don't want to jump on the "blame the tuner" but I am having a hard time with his theory

It’s nothing to do with blame, you just want to find out what really happened. Learn and improve.

So here is the deal and I've broke a couple short blocks. When your trying to run 20 psi on the street shit will happen. Its too easy to spin the tires and you know what happens when its delivering fuel and timing, then your out of throttle and then maybe get back into it with timing all over the place when this happens and you just dumped a whole shit load of fuel in the cylinders so at this point anything can happen. The tuner sets this up on the dyno in a controlled environment and you take it out into uncontrolled piece of asphalt or concrete. If your running it on the edge it demands your full attention. The closest place to the dyno is on the drag strip on drag radial or a slick not on a set of street tires with 800 rwhp. Thats my 2 cents or 8000 grand for a built short block.

Your right about it being a handful even on the street Rs and I don't want to do this again more than anything else, especially in this weather we are having right now here in Austin, I live about 2 miles from a toll road and i can hear the mustangs taunting me
