Body Panel Alignment

Weirdest thing: After nearly five years of owning my 2016 SS, I noticed last night that where the driver's side front quarter panel meets the driver's door, the horizontal character line running down the side of the car doesn't exactly match up. It's a smidge higher on the quarter panel than it is on the door. Just a little blip in the continuity of the line. The passenger side lines up pretty good. OCD freak that I am, this bugged me for a while. Have you guys ever come across stuff like that that's not QUITE lined up?

Funny you mention this because I noticed the same thing like a year later as well. Sometimes it's because of improper lifting since these cars have very specific lift points.

could be hinge pins wearing out too although that seems premature.long heavy doors take their toll.

Yes it seems to be a normal occurrence with our Camaros and there’s not much that can be done about it either.

That makes me feel a little better. I'll go back to ignoring it.

Yes my ZL1 has pretty much the same issue as your SS does and I’m sure it has something to do with the use of composite materials in the body panels.

Is the front quarter panel made of something different than the door? I assumed they're both metal.

Not sure but think they are metal. Maybe some other forum members can answer this.

Pretty certain they're both metal. Once had to have a dent removed from the door, so I at least know THAT's metal.

GM has always had fit and finish issues, bran new, i noticed how the fenders and hood gaps vary on my car from wide to small at different parts of the hood.

At least the hood is very easy to adjust, though. Mine came near fairly well adjusted from the factory, then it was replaced and a bit unevenly adjusted in the body shop after a (let's just say) mishap earlier this year, after which I tweaked it to near perfection.

It's ten times easier if you have help to hold the hood in position while adjusting the bolts.
