Melted a piston with a procharger
Not sure what went wrong, about 20% of the top of #7 is no longer with us? Not sure what happened, was also logging at the time and everything looked good, about the top of 5th all hell broke loose, sorta went sideways, oil everywhere, wife holding the laptop screaming, smelled terrible, like burnt oil and tar, I pull over and she takes off running, I thought it was going to be a belt, but... It's 2020, brand new procharger at 20#s not sure what went wrong??

Uh, maybe I’m misunderstanding, but you bolted a blower on a stock SS and are running 20# of boost...? If so, no surprise your motor went bye bye. What are you doing for fueling? Did you have it dyno tuned?

That sucks. sorry to hear that. Is that 20lbs of boost on stock internals?

Thinking about the original post some more, if it’s a base level Procharger kit, he might be seeing 20 or so pounds absolute, so maybe 6 pounds of actual boost?

Ported heads, tsp drop in piston and rods, cam, lots of meth, lt4 fueling, dsx aux pump, msd intake, was running 9.90s with a d1sc, then to a f1a-94, tuned again, been logging and revising tunes, it lived for about 500 miles and 1 track day, then on a test hit by house, boom....thought I had my bases covered

Similar as the ls world. I see #7 being an issue more than others.

So true, I guess pushing to 20 psi is a real problem on the street. Sounds like it went lean at some point. One cyBlinder or many its still may not be all that happened and you won't know till the motor is torn down. If it melted as you say the cylinder wall is probably damaged also. Port injection should be in your future build with less reliance on Meth. I took my old Camaro completely off meth dropped the boost and it went faster when I was tuning for the new owner. Sorry to here that happened, I've been there a couple times but never melted a piston down. |

My guess is a distribution issue with your Meth injection system.

Think that Joshinator99 and KingLT1 both have a good point about the methanol distribution being questionable. Guessing here that you have 2 or 3 methanol nozzles mounted in the charge tube before the throttle body currently? The amount of methanol that you are probably using with 20 pounds of boost from an F1a-94 blower and mere LT4 DI parts in the motor could warrant going to a direct-port setup.
Another possible solution would be to improve the fuel system with either secondary port injection or $$$$ DI parts, then a corresponding reduction in the amount of methanol going into the charge tube. Switching the methanol system in that case from it's current mostly-for-fuel-supply role to a mostly-for-cooling role. With an adequate fuel system, another benefit would be that you could run E85 fuel. |

No doubt it is a distribution issue, I melted a #7 piston on an LS1 using nitrous for the same reason. When I decided to build this car I did port injection and can support 1500hp on E85 now so I won't be blowing anything up because of fueling issues.
