Question for Cammed Zl1 owners

3 part question:
1st part is when you start the car does your car run at a high rpm then settle down like it did stock or does yours go right to a warmed up rpm? What is your warmed up rpm? And, if it still does higher rpm then settle down, how long would you say before it drops rpm?

Mine only seems to be at higher rpm for a couple seconds at most. My rpm avg is 850.

Only takes a few seconds to get to normal idle.

What is your rpm at idle? Is your same in gear vs park?

Before cam it would idle at about 1200 for about 20 seconds and then slowly drop down to about 650 within a minute. Now with the cam it goes to 1200 for about 10 seconds then drops to 1000 for a minute and then to about 800 and it’s good to go. This is on first start of the day. After that if sitting for about 3 hours it will take about 30 seconds for it to idle at normal.

Park idle is 800 rpm, drive is about 700.

Thanks for the feedback.. I am thinking of adjusting mine to be around a 1000 when cold then settle down to its current 850

You know I know it's your post but , I have always wondered why GM vehicles idle high for such a short period, I have driven toyota for years, tacoma 12 years, My current tundra for 13 years, and wife sequoia for 8 years, the kids have toyota's anyway a toyota will idle high for 5 minutes and slowly work it's way down to 500 rpm. and I believe the longer warm up's is one of the many reasons they last longer. Like stretching your body longer before a run or work out just a theory. I want a cam and I might do headers even though I really dont want them, I just hope the low and high fuel can support it with a CAI ?

Mine takes about 20 to 30 seconds and evens out about 850 to 1,ooo rpm. Yours seems about like mine.

There’s many strategies at play here for various reasons.

I’ve had a couple Toyo Highlanders & I’d say your observation is spot on.

I haven’t logged them to see what their fuel/spark strategy is, but it is intriguing.

Same here.

One thing I will note is the ZL1 stinks up my garage a fair bit more than my SS did.

Whether that’s intended or not is a question for further analysis.
