We can blame marketing, engine names, etc all we want, but the reality is GM doesn't produce the volumes as the competitors.

Why they don't produce and sell as many cars is due to a number of reasons. As was mentioned, people cross shopping a Camaro vs Mustang vs Challenger/Charger for performance reasons may gravitate more towards a Camaro.

People who want a sporty coupe but still need something a little more practical are going to gravitate towards a Challenger/Charger. Most Americans prefer bigger. We see that with cars, trucks, SUV's, etc. The Mustang tends to bridge the gap between the Camaro and Charger/Challenger. It has a little bit more room, bigger trunk, and better visibility than the Camaro. Looks wise, I think the styling may appeal more towards a larger demographic.

We can debate all this until we are all blue in the face, it's the same argument over and over again. By now I think it is obvious that as good a car as the Camaro is in terms of handling and performance, it appeals to fewer people.

But anyone who is shopping understands Camaro inventory is very, very tight. Strike and Covid aside, I think GM had already started cutting back production and incentives long before. I saw it a few years back when I first considered a Camaro, Ford and FCA were offering much deeper discounts and incentives. GM may just be more content with selling less cars but not offer such massive rebates (although some people seemed to get some, but for most getting $8-10K off a Camaro was not happening).

The 2019 refresh was also a disaster. I don't mean to insult the 2019 owners, because in person the car looked good to me, but there was a lot of bad press and we all know it was bad enough for GM to refresh the front again in 2020. GM just has not executed as well as Ford and FCA.

I agree the Camaro interior is more vocal about "I'm a muscle/track car" than the Mustang does. I got my SS/1LE when GM was "giving" them away back in 2019. I guess I lucked out on timing. They are a 'bad' deal these days vs Mustang or Dodge.
I went so many years with Vettes and no back seats i don't even know i have back seats in my LT1 Camaro. They never cross my mind.

Actually the Mustang has a much better back seat simply because of how far forward you can adjust the drivers seat forward. In a Camaro with my knees into the IP I can just get 4 fingers between the front of the rear seat cushion and the back of the drivers seat. With a Mustang there is about 10 inches with my knees into the IP. So the SAE measured couples may be close but in a jam the Mustang has a huge advantage.

Personally I would have to measure that myself, is there really that much difference in the Stangs rear seat room versus the Camaro. Secondly, does a Camaro buyer or a mustang buyer really give a damn about rear seat room. Give me the better performer any day and one that is torque rich.

Back seats are the last thing on my mind when buying a car. I had a 2015 GT and it did not have the low end grunt my C6's did. My new LT1 feels very strong from a start, but have not got on it very hard. The back end wants to come around easy i can tell. I did not get that with the GT.

Were you drunk when you typed that? Serious question.

I agree, screw the back seat, get a 4dr car. Street driving is no fun with a low torque engine or one that needs to be driven at higher RPM all the time.

Well some of us have small kids and I have a 4 door Wrangler, a Honda Odyssey, and my Camaro and guess what? My youngest always asks to go in the Camaro.

There’s no 4 door car that is close to the Camaro price range that I can haul my kids and go to the track.

I am coming from a GT350 and the Mustang backseats are just ever so slightly bigger. It’s barely noticeable, I’m 5’11” with a long torso.

I would say anyone over 5’ 3” or so will not be very comfortable in either car. It’s made for short, skinny people.

I think it depends on the individual. For me they are wildly different. And I'm talking knees touching the IP.

I'm 6' but have short legs.

I know you have had them in the past, with mixed experience, but honestly it’s never been my bag.

My uncle had a 69, my step dad had a 78, my FiL had an 86 & still owns a 02, I’ve never really liked them. Sat in a C7 when I was at the dealer back when I was buying my SS & a C8 when I got the ZL1, just not my bag of tea.

Pony cars are more to my liking.
