FBO SS and GT vs stock ZL1 (ZL1 loses?)

I want to start by saying I'm pretty new to this stuff and that I'm speaking strictly from a drag racing, roll racing perspective. The other day I had the opportunity to race a 19 GT that had full bolt ons. We dynoed within 10 minutes of one another and I put down 100 more horses at 560.

Street results showed something different. Our cars were mostly dead even with me pulling slightly, then at 140 he started to reel me in.

On another note I've seen full bolt on Camaro SS getting 10s in the quarter trapping at nearly 130, still with less power than the ZL1.

Is this all weight based? If I get a simple tune on my car and nothing else would there be a different result on the top end? It just seems like their is some missing hidden power.

The Coyote 5.0 makes most of its hp on the top end because of the 4 cams and they rev like crazy! I will give Ford credit that the Coyote makes a lot of hp especially when mods are done to them. GM should have made our LT4s a 4 cammer in my opinion.

Like the old saying goes: “Ya don’t race dyno’s”

Didn’t you do a E Kit?

GM just needed to use a blower that doesn’t heat soak on a long pull.

That high end is indeed insane. I'm sure the ZL1 with a ecm and trans tune would be a different beast even stock. It just seems like a lot of effort to match lower powered cars. Though I know their are a lot of factors. Can't wait to pop this blower off.

He's probably making more than 460 if he's full bolt ons probably closer to 500. The coyote pretty much matches the SS hp wise when doing bolt ons its not untill heads and cam that the SS pulls away while staying NA. So since you weigh more I can see him keeping with fbo. If he ever decides to do boost you'll really get to see just how fast them coyotes can move. If your going to tune you might as well do some bolt ons because a tune alone is not really going to do much.

That is normal. Bolt-on E85 SS and Coyotes run with Stock ZL1's pretty easy. Tune and flex sensor will wake a ZL1 up big time. The reason being is E85 can handle higher blower temps much better then pump gas. You can raise the threshold where the ECU pulls timing due to high MAT's. Keeps the timing up and makes more consistent power.
