Maybe GM will stand back and see how the next gen mustang does in 2023..then move forward with something that will be just as nice.T hink if if they would have waited on the new blazer after now knowing about the new bronco.

Within a fairly short time frame all cars will have some sort of electrification even if it is only an 11 hp starter/generator. It enables start-stop and allows engineers to get more power out of an engine by moving the torque curve up.
It's hard to say which engines will be available although the V8 is an endangered species. We are looking at a car in its 6 year which hasn't seen much in the way of updating and declining sales so that does not bode well. If you have decades to wait and someplace to store it your Gen 6 will be very interesting in the post petrol era.

Probably a good time to stock up on those plastic components your car has before they become unavailable. The inside trim on the late 70's GM stuff went to hell after a short period. Modern trim from China is likely even worse yet.

I'm a bit more concerned with computer modules that are VIN coded, even if a replacement is acquired, they may not be possible to get reprogrammed and added to the car.

GM has no reason to stop 6th gen production as long as they're making money from it. At this rate, it'll be gone after the 2023 MY.
GM plans on shifting all of its cars onto just a handful of versatile platforms by 2025 or so. The Platform for the next-gen Cadillac sedans is rumored to be ready in 2024, which would mean that there's a 2 year gap between the end of Camaro production and the replacement of the Alpha/Alpha 2 platform. That puts the Camaro in a bit of a pickle. GM could give the 6th gen another refresh with new looks, a better interior, and more technology. They could also replace the V6 and the 2.0T with the new 2.7L Turbo motor, which is already used on the same chassis with the new CT4-V. The LT1 could be swapped for the LT2. The manual option would likely go away if all of that were to happen. A refresh is highly unlikely considering the fact that we haven't seen a test mule anywhere this year and because the next-gen would enter the testing phase weeks or months after that refresh happens. However, this would keep the Camaro alive and it would help GM stay in multiple Motorsports in which the Camaro is their racecar. I have no clue what car Chevy's NASCAR teams would use if the Camaro went away. There was that survey from a while backwhere Chevy asked Camaro owners if they would consider hybrid powertrains, and NASCAR is also looking at going hybrid soon in order to attract new manufacturers(Dodge and Honda, most likely). If GM wants to keep the Camaro in NASCAR, they could refresh the lineup and introduce hybrids for a couple of years. But again, we haven't seen GM testing any Camaros this year. The more likely scenario is that the Camaro dies off for a couple of years and comes back alongside the next-gen Cadillac sedans. HOWEVER, it would very likely be all electric at this point, and there are many reasons for that. A few years ago, GM committed to going all-electric in its future, and they hoped to get most models switched to EVs by 2030. Then they axed lots of slow-selling sedans and hybrids and cut 14,000 jobs in order to fund the research and development of their electric vehicles. They also partnered with Honda to help share R&D costs and many technologies related to EVs. Next, GM moved our beloved Chief Engineer, Al Oppenheiser, to lead the development of GM's electric vehicles. When the UAW strikes hit last year, GM axed lots of funding for their internal-combustion engine development, which is why the new Cadillac Blackwing models will use the same engines as the old V models. GM has now teased the Hummer EV with 1000hp and a 3-second 0-60. Just in the past few weeks, GM and Honda upped their partnership goals and it seems like they will now be sharing electric vehicle platforms. Most recently, though, GM moved one or more lead engineers from the Corvette team to EV development, potentially to work alongside Al O. When you look at that timeline of events, two things are clear to me: 1. GM is committed to going all-electric 2. GM is serious about the performance of their electric vehicles. So if the chief engineer of the Camaro and some engineers from the Corvette team are working on EVs and the 6th gen Camaro is at the end of its life, they should probably be working on an electric 7th gen Camaro. |

Something to consider is that if all vehicles go EV then finding affordable gasoline might be a problem and the government may mandate all gasoline vehicles to be taxed heavily or destroyed. That’s my thinking on the subject discussion.

Hope you are right ember but gasoline will be expensive so much we may not be able to afford a gallon of gas. Our radical politicians are serious about going all electric except of course for them. They will continue to ride airplanes and have their limos that are gas or diesel powered while we run our electric power bills up charging our EVs.

A better option to climate change and resource depletion would be for people to stop having so many damn kids. Population growth is out of control with half the world breeding like rabbits.

To OP, nobody knows.
Honestly, it's 2020. Your focus should be staying alive. Quote:
