Ambient Lighting

Does this have a reputation for lasting the life of the car or does it eventually burn out or go bad?

Seems like the factory stuff last longer than the aftermarket stuff. Also depends on what type of ambient lighting you're referring to exactly

Gotcha. Can't comment on that particularly, but I do have the alluminated door sills, and they've been problem free for two years. Had some on my Mustang and they were fine almost five years

Friend has had ambient lighting on his Impala for 4-5 yrs , no issues. I have it on my 3lt and really like it but the car is new.

Only the dealer installed option is going away. Factory install is still an option

Never had problems with the lighting in the 2016 2SS or the ZL1 I have now. I did though turn it off in the Z because I felt like it doesn’t fit the character of the car!

The Spectrum Lighting is just two LED chips and the rest is similar to optic fiber light tubes.

Worst comes to worst, you can replace the LED chips with someone else or a wrecked cars. I have like 10 chips sitting on my desk from someone here and the ones from the spectrum lighting I bought from another person on facebook

Only thing I did was change it from drive mode to constant red to match the interior & exterior. Figured I could just look at the dash to see what mode it’s in. Mostly have kept it in Touring since Sport or Track really seems to track the ruts on our crappy back woods highways & May give the impression I’ve been drinking, which I never do when I’ll be driving.

I am enjoying it so far.

That’s good gtfoxy. I keep mine in Sport mode most all the time with an occasional Track mode drive. If I have a trip out of town I will put it in Tour mode with traction control on or off depending on road conditions. Mine seems to get better mileage in Tour than in Sport mode on a trip.

Track mode is a yuuuge change from touring. It really holds the gears & seems to shift harder & a tad quicker, how I thought my SS should behave in Track. The steering is noticeably tighter taking more steering effort. I could probably get used to the force difference, & probably will at some point, to hold the driving line in the ruts, but most the time I just want to relax in my car & it damn near yanks the wheel out of your hand. I get enough brain drain in my work truck.

You can assign different steering to the drive modes in the settings.
