Just guessing that your winter temps put you well into the high risk zone for cracking the rubber on summer tires.

I've made a lot of short drives on 4S at 20-30F (no ice or snow). You would probably have to stay out there for an an hour or two at 20F to cause any damage.

I have no intention of keeping the summer tires on into winter. The loss of traction would be the larger issue.

absolutely. I wasn't even aware of this problem until my car sat in the parking lot on a cold day. Garaged at night, so no troubles getting to work. Getting home was the problem!
Only then did I read the manual and decided I needed a "plan B" until it got warmer!

Here's a video of a Nurburgring team guy discussing the tires they run in all kinds of conditions on their GT2 RS, which is a 3300 lb., 700 hp car that has a #/hp advantage over the ZL1 (3300#/700HP versus 3800#/650HP) and is a bit quicker around that track than the ZL1.

I found his discussion of 7 high perf. tires to be helpful.

It looks as though you may be in the northern parts as well (based on the rock used in the driveway there ) I'm assuming you got rid of your SS for your current ZL1? My SS is yellow as well... one of my favorite colors
You will not be disappointed with them. They grip quite well. A quite acceptable balance of A/S performance & grip.

As I said, at the time I purchased them, I had no intention of it ever seeing snow, nor will the ZL1. Hell, I get mad when it rains & I have to take it through the car wash because of water spots & dust. Yet deep down a hot car that’s wet is much akin to a hot women being....

You are correct. I am in NW WI. That’s a few week old pic at our shop. We’ve since covered that entire area in trap rock. (See pic) Are you in the north woods by chance?

Yes I traded my Yellow SS in on the ZL1. Absolutely loved the car, but the power desire inside me burns strong, like a tire fire from decades ago. The SS was about the same as my 04 GTO M6 w/ aftermarket heads, LS6 intake, LS9 cam, LTH’s, full exhaust, etc, etc but much, much more refined with OMG upgrades. & that handling difference though!

What is ironic is the GTO was red.

Yeah, I was originally set on getting the Continental DWS-06's but the Michelins seem to fit the bill better for me. I'm afraid the Continental aren't performance oriented enough. And that petty part..I want tires that look like performance as well, which again,I feel the Michelin are better.

The color (yellow) is what really sold me on getting a Camaro. Granted I love, and have always wanted, something like the 6.2L but always went another direction. I had a yellow 370z years ago, and I've never quite felt the same about another car. I think the color has much to do with that...the yellow just gives it a hint of "exotic-ness". I know there is nothing exotic about a Camaro. . My car has been sitting in the garage for a better part of a week. I have a cruise tomorrow and I'm not getting it dirty to be cleaned immediately again. We've had rain off and on for several days.

I would love a ZL1 but I think it would get me in way too much trouble, and I would have to purchase tires by the truckload lol. I had rented a Corvette Z06 several times and that car is an animal. The sound, the handling, and power are addicting. I could listen to that car idle all day. I'm still trying to determine if those cars are built to be louder, or it is a matter of actual car and sound dampening. Obviously the Corvettes are open into the trunk, so that is generally increased volume right there. I do have the NPP on my SS and it has a good roar on startup but I feel the Z06 is a bit louder. Those cars were also yellow with black rims .

I figured! The rocks were almost a dead giveaway for me. Yes, I'm in NW/centralish WI...about an hour away from Eau Claire.

We've been in high 30's the past couple of mornings. I think I had 36 this morning leaving the house. It was a bit chilly on the bike (naked sportbike, so there is no wind protection).

I used to have BF Goodrich All season tires, but they are now out of stock. I will be getting this week General G-Max AS05. I can let you know how they are. BTW, I live in NJ.

I have these and like them. If you can wait for the rebate, it WILL come around at least twice a year. Typically $70-100 on a set of 4 tires.

The generals are on 5 spoke rims and are my "winter" set, for those rainy south jersey winters.
My 50th anniv wheels are almost done with the run flats. I hope to put the new BFG comp 2 plus (or whatever they call it) on those for summer. Watching like a hawk for the BFG rebate to cycle my way! BFG supposedly better at shedding water in summer storms. My son had them in SW florida and they did the job.

zaimer, I came from a 2016 2SS to a used 2017 ZL1 in March 2019 and the biggest thing for me was to train my mind to have respect for the hp of ZL1 as compared to the SS. You learn quick how and when to let up on the throttle and the driving characteristics of the extra hp. The ZL1 feels so much more balanced than the SS to me and the handling is much different too. I don’t think you would have any problem adjusting to the extra hp if you decided to upgrade to a ZL1.
