I have a 45-minute BBC documentary on the 6th gen Camaro I'd grabbed from youtube before it got pulled (who knows why) if you're interested: https://www.dropbox.com/s/u0s3pe91m1...ISODE.mp4?dl=1
I might have been a little optimistic on my pricing but not like you insinuate..... it is certainly more than "a couple bucks":

Part# 12687311 PVC Valve Hose - $8.08
23340377 Engine Air Intake Resonator - $41.75
23340376 Air Tube - $85.07
23340375 Air Tube - $55.00

Total for complete sound tube and air motor (not including clips, brackets, and bolts) = $189.90

That's wholesale discount pricing which might be 10% over cost.

Add in the clips, brackets, bolts, time to install, and really, time and money for this guy to sit and analyze the sound at his computer...... Ok, I'll give you $200 cost/Camaro. Word of note: he used washing machine components in that IVER. Yes, he could do that because it wasn't going into production. If you look closely he literally cut a hole in the intake tube to install the makeshift washing machine tube. For production, they had to redesign the intake tube with a cast hole in the top which requires making an all new cast, then formulate the rubber and plastic to make it durable and reliable for high engine temps on a +130 degree day in the Sahara desert, as well as -40 over night in Alaska, for long periods of time. So that's why the sound tube parts on the production cars cost more than "a couple bucks" and are not washing machine drain hoses.

How many SS Camaros were built from inception at the beginning of Model Year 2016 until they quit installing it at the beginning of this year? X $200?

BTW that's an EXCELLENT video, I love it...... and I also understand why GM would have made sure it was taken off yt. You see a lot of the inside of GM's design and engineering facilities that they probably don't want the public to see. Even if the video itself didn't give away any secrets if it came out after the car came out, GM (and really all car manufacturers) is pretty strict about who sees anything inside their offices and that probably made someone mad that this video was made.

True, I was definitely sloppy and handwavy with the cost and for the most part I agree with your analysis. However, the sound tube is still not super expensive IMO for something that they genuinely thought would enhance the driving experience, and I actually applaud GM for allowing it on these grounds, yet indeed it wasn't in the "just throwing in a few bucks' worth of parts" category, as you said.

I'm glad I had saved this video, it is an highly informational companion to the Edsall book on the 6th gen Camaro that I purchased.

Thanks again for another thoughtful response that was a delight to consume

Best thing I did to the Miata. There’s just something quieter with the tube gone. I’ll do the same to the Camaro once I get the cold air installed.

Quiet cabin and a sound tube that was tuned to let the best sounds in.

I still have mine on, why not.

It makes a good conduit for running wires from the front of car into the cabin. Just plug it off at the intake tube and penetrate it after the resonator. Stealth.

It’s a great mod hole to pass wires thru once you get rid of it. It cleans up the engine bay too with clutter and looks better not there anymore. I just don’t like the bugle that’s left when you get rid of the hose on air intake elbow. I purchase a smooth aluminum elbow and put the PCV hose underneath the elbow to hide that hose as well.

Well, they must have realized it after the fact because GM has a block-off plate for the firewall. I ordered it while I was waiting for my 1LE to arrive from the factory.

I had an oil smell in the car after an oil change from the dealer. They spilled oil all over the valve cover and sound tube, wires, etc. Lot of cleaning when I got home. It smelled for about 10 months then went away (low milleage car) . Dealer could never find out where the smell was coming from. I heared that the soundtube diafram is at the intake side. I wonder if the spilled oil got into the sound tube and that's where the oil smelling in the cabin was coming from.

A few months ago I changed my car’s oil and had the same issue, but I didn’t spill any oil. The smell would only come in through the vents when I had circulation off. It remained a mystery as I couldn’t find out where it was coming from.

Great Video. Thanks. I did not realize the 6 cyc is a dual overhead cam engine until I watched it. At first I thought they were showing the wrong motor LOL.

Where did you pick up the aluminum elbow?

I picked it up off Amazon. It’s not a perfect fit, you have to cut and grind a bit to make it fit perfectly and seal the box on a slight angle. So if your not good at modding then I would advise against going this route. It’s certainly not hard to do, I would say 5/10 for difficulty. Very doable.
