car makers are going full FUD on right to repair
Some states have some right to repair laws coming up on ballots in the next voting period this year. Like Massachusetts. Manufacturers are going full on "You're going to get raped" scare tactics to try and get the laws voted against.
Them winning is all of us gear heads losing. Gotta combat these lies wherever the manufacturers are paying to put them up. https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/q...xual-predators We're already seeing the efforts of GM/chevy in trying to lock the camaro down to only manufacturer authorized systems. We own these things, dont let yourself get turned into just a user for the same price. |

Agreed, well said. Manufacturers have been slowly trying to push out independent mechanics for a while unfortunately. Not good.

Iacocca started that crap.
Such a vast turn around from the Aftermarket manufactures agreement of a few decades back. |

I.E the story goes that when Chevrolet was developing the Camaro, they purchased a Mustang and took it apart to make sure every component in the Camaro was better than the matching part on the Mustang. Today, it's all about software and systems. As the general public is demanding more and more technology, be it connectivity or automation of driving, it's getting very competitive. I guess nobody really cares about learning how to actually drive a car these days. Of course, they know that the voters don't care about copyright and trademarks, so fear has to be the tactic. They also know that the average person doesn't really know squat about cyber security. The fact that the bluetooth saves everybody you know to the contact list in your car, or that it if it has navigation, especially with a connected service to your phone, where you live, where you are, and where you're going is no secret, fear is an easy sell. |

Your post makes my point (Chevy buying a Mustang). If another manufacturer has something great, another brand just buys one and reverse engineers it. Chevy did that with the Porsche 911 before releasing the Stingray. So, it’s incredibly easy to find out a trade secret, since they can legally buy the competitor’s car anyway IMO.
