Vehicles seem to be selling right now. People re traveling using vehicles instead of by air- and because gas is so low in price. Truck sales are booming- I see the used truck prices soaring out of sight. So car sales too may be picking up- to a lesser extent but also picking up.

From what I was told used car sales are hot because there is no new car inventory yet.

Everyone that wants a new car is paying top dollar because there just aren't any available.

it's easy to swing big percentages when your numbers are so low.

Q3 in 2019 was a down period for car sales in general. So it's a comparison to a dip (q2 2019 it had fallen 15% or so for the camaro specifically.)

there's nothing that's going to really save the camaro. Either chevy has some kind of vendetta against it and that's why they keep killing it or the public has just spoken and they dont want the car.

Apparently, compromising various daily driving attributes (at least perceptually) to be the best at a performance level that's not legal to drive at on public roads drives people to other cars instead of hooking them. Unlike the corvette, the camaro doesn't have the "class" to make that selling point work.

I don't believe much of anything that gmauthority says. Btw, my dealer still has the same 3 or 4 camaros on their lot that they ordered in at the beginning of the year. They can't give them away it seems to me.

They absolutely could give them away. The problem is that it seems most dealers simply aren't willing to deal on them. I got a better deal by driving two hours than buying the almost exact same car from a local lot. The local dealership was "all in" at a higher cost (with fewer options) than what I bought for, and likely could have squeaked a few more dollars out of the deal if I wanted to try.

When GM continues to produce vehicles with a known faulty transmission/converter and car after car and truck after truck continues to have customer complaints the word get's out and sales fall off. GM is horrible about fixing poorly engineered components and the number of unhappy buyers add up. I'm still very pissed off about the cheap ever cracking Chinese dash in my 2011 Silverado. General Motors has a serious customer satisfaction problem and it directly affects future sales.

Maybe they just don't know how to order them. Could just be a bad area for Camaro sales too.

Going up from nothing isn't much of an accomplishment.

The article is basically useless and there are no "facts."

If they are comparing sales numbers for July 2020 to July 2019, it's impossible. GM doesn't release monthly sales numbers, and they admit in the article.

If they are comparing July 2020 numbers to Q2 numbers, that's a pointless comparison for a multitude of reasons.

if they are trying to compare July 2020 to June 2020, that's pointless because... again... GM doesn't release monthly numbers.

Even if they could make comparisons for individual months, it would still be useless because you can't compare the situational items that influence those numbers (dealers that are closed, no inventory, people out of work that can't get a loan to buy a car, etc.).

The whole article is written in the basis that "they saw" some internal documents that stated a 22% increase but they provide zero context as to how that was measured. It's a 100% clickbait article.

I don’t understand why the increase isn’t meaningful? The numbers are smaller and more noisy, but it’s a decent increase. Did some rental car agency decide to buy a few thousand units.... lol I’d say it’s a lot of pent up demand, but so what people like the Camaro, I take it as a positive, although I’m wondering how this increase compares to other cars in the segment.

Correct on both counts. My dealer barely can keep Camaros a week. 6.2Ls in any model are selling...

Used vehicle market is insane right now. I have a buddy who does the used car buying for a large dealer, goes to all the auctions. Said it's crazy, used stuff going for close to MSRP.

I ended up ordering a new Camaro because the few dealers in the entire country who had what I wanted were asking way too much for their used inventory. Sounds like it's true that used values are up across the board right now due to higher demand. Probably combination of less new inventory due to factory shutdowns and people wanting to save some money by going used.
