Dealer damaged fender when lifting improperly. Best fix?
Got an oil change this morning (yeah yeah I know... but. they offer a lifetime powertrain warranty if you use them for all regular oil changes)
Anyways when they lifted it they didn't put the arms out properly, so the driver's side fender is mis aligned with the door. Luckily the panel didn't buckle and the door doesn't catch on it but it's still noticeable. So I took it around to a couple body shops and I've gotten conflicted info on the best way to fix it so I wanted your guys input: Option A: I was told there are two bolts behind the panel. They need to get behind there and tighten them to re-align the panel. Option B: Use a PDR type tool to push the fender back into alignment with the door. I'm also concerned if there might be damage behind the panel from however all that weight was misplaced? Thoughts? Thanks ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This last picture is a reference, showing the perfect alignment before the dealer damaged it.

Why not have the dealer fix it since they caused the damage

i think this type of damage is corrected by un-bending the bottom of the panel where the lift pressed up against the fender back to where it should be, but i guess it depends on how much it bent.
just make the dealer fix it. This has been happening to people since 2016. It's only slightly more common than not putting enough oil in the v8's during a simple oil change. |

They're paying for it, but they don't have their own body shop. I took it to the shop they use, but obviously shopped around at one of my choice.
I received conflicting info on how they would fix it, so I'm curious what others think. I will post pics tomorrow. |

I find the term misaligned to be interesting. I am trying to conceive how a force can be placed on it to misalign it without some damage occurring. Wouldn't something need to bend or buckle? Did it just shift at the mounting points? It seems something would have to push/pull the fender to make it misaligned. Additionally, it seems the only way it could involve the fender and fender alone would be if they placed the lift directly on the fender. Otherwise, the fender would be moved by the malformation of whatever structure the lift was placed on. For example, if they buckled/damaged the aluminum structure the fender attaches to, it would move the fender but also damage the structure. Fenders don't just move on their own. If I had to guess, and I am just guessing, I'd say there is some damage other than just the fender alignment. Assuming there is other damage under the car, can the fender be realigned without actually fixing that damage, maybe so (working with limited info here). Should it be realigned without actually fixing the damage, no. But at this point the body shop is working for the dealership not you. So their client's best interest is important here, not yours. I would get a good look under there and see what bent/buckled to move the fender and make sure it gets fixed too. JMHO No expertise implied or expressed

+1, no proper advice can be given without seeing the actual damage

I can't believe that dealers are still doing this after 5 years. I fought with the general manager over this when they did it to mine. They tried to blame it on body flex, blah, blah, blah...until I showed him my photo of the mark under the fender where the tech placed the lift. They had their body shop repair it in about an hour or so. The fender is likely collapsed a bit from the lift and they simply massaged it back into shape. I think he said that they also did a small adjust on the door. It came out about 90% and you don't ever notice it unless you look for it. Unless rocker is crushed, they can probably just re-shape it back to normal (or near normal)

Looking at the pictures it just looks like they need to realign the front fenders. Also check your rocket panels and make sure there are no dents/cracks... I’d also recommend you pick up a set of Jack/lift pads for your car to make sure the dealers don’t damage your car.
Sorry this happened to you. It’s happened to me twice and neither times the dealer would take the blame for any damages. |

Looks to me like they didn't even use the lifting pad. By missing that the pressure applied to the underside rom the weight actually bent it up. When it was pushed up it forced the bottom of the fender out. I you look on the underside of the car right by the fender I bet you see more damage.

A common occurrence still happening and yes it’s mild damage but needs to be fixed. Since the dealership is paying to have it repaired take it to a highly rated body shop that has good reviews and have them fix it. A couple of years ago that is what happened to my 2016 when having new tires put on and the Tire Dealer that installed the tires fixed it by one of the Techs that worked in the shop. I was told that he had worked in a body shop years earlier and the tire shop had to repair some Corvettes they lifted wrong in addition to some Camaros. Everything turned out good with my 2016 SS so the damage can be repaired but it’s carelessness by techs that cause these issues.

It's amazing this is still happening, the car having been out for 4 1/2 years.
