Cylinder Deactivation - working?
Just took a long drive down to Tennessee. In some videos online I occasionally see the little V8 icon in the dash change to V4. Mine's never done that, is it supposed to? I got ~28 - 30mpg on the freeway, which I'm pretty happy with, but there's several places in the cluster screens where's there a V8 icon, but it doesn't change to anything.

You have the manual transmission, which does not have cylinder deactivation. Only the automatics have it.

Be thankful you don't have it. It's not good and most deactivate it through a tune or range device

Ah, did not realize that was the case. Thanks! I didn't really want it, just concerned that something was inop. 28mpg is not bad anyway, heck it's pretty close to my sons Honda civic!!

Or like others have said it can be tuned out. As I understand it they actually use the same engine in both cars, it's just that that function is not programmed at the factory and not in the ECM in the manual versions. |

Yeah, manual Camaro doesn't have the functionality in the software. C7 Corvette manual does, however, but it only kicks in in Econ mode. I tried it once for fun, it's not bad, but I drive around mostly in Sport or Touring(if weather is crappy) so I wouldn't have used it.
I think they have worked out the kinks for AFM at this point, but yeah, some of the horror stories I have heard about cylinder deactivation means I want to avoid it. Honda and GM used to have some pretty serious issues with it.

I have the A8 and I hate the AFM. Some people say they can't even notice it, but I can certainly notice when it goes from V4 to V8. I put in a Range AFM disabler and haven't looked back. Supposedly it helps prevent the A8 shudder problem as well, but I don't know about that.

The ZL1 A10 doesn't have it. Do the SS and RS have it?
I don't particularly want it, but I feel I'm about wear out the hinges on the fuel tank door. |

My RS V6 has it, and while you can slightly feel it, it's not enough for me to disable it. Also, it will do nothing to prevent the A8 shudder.

The v6 and SS both have it if equipped with the A8 or A10

Hmm, maybe put a rubber stop under the go pedal?

No kidding... While I understand that the info in the dash info is "wrong", but I routinely see my average MPG showing around 20MPG when I drive a mix of around town and highway.

2SS A8 Never noticed it activate or de-activate, love the mpg it gives you. I wish there was an eco mode to keep it on 4 cylinders when you want. Never had shudder either, 41000 so far. I do notice that this car is better above 80mph then below, it's just built to be driven hard.
