Doing 140mph and oil sprayed everywhere
Was up in northern Michigan on a back road and was doing a pull and at 135mph smelled oil burning and then at 140 saw a huge cloud of smoke billowing out behind the car. Let off and coasted to the next parking lot and checked under the hood. Oil was coated over the front of the engine. Had oil pressure and no check engine light. Only thing I could see was my oil catch can lines were loose. Tightened them up and drove back to my dad's (about 2 miles away) and looked at everything again. Sprayed it down with brake cleaner also. Checked oil level and was about a quart low. Ran and got some oil and topped her off. Drove the car later that night with no issues and then the next day drove 5.5hrs back down to my house with no issues. Car runs like normal and has same power feel. I sprayed down the engine bay again today at the car wash and then jacked it up and checked out underneath and there were still just some residual oil. Sprayed it down again with brake cleaner and wiped it all down.
Curious as to what actually happened. I don't think that much oil would come from oil catch can lines. |

You've reached the proper speed for Camaro time travel (De Lorean are outdated). The smoke you saw was the result of space time wrapping on itself.
Welcome to the 22nd century. People on the 22nd century do not agree with speeding, so be careful.

Try that here in lower Michigan, and you'll hit a bunch of potholes before anything lol

The Cannonball Run is alive and well in 2020. Plenty of people posting about breaking the records on almost a weekly basis.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.roa...y-2020-sub-26/ 140 is nothing ![]() I’d attempt it myself if I had the funding and a team of spotters. |

The thought of oil on my tires at 140 is spooky.
Glad you didn't spin or lose it |

You probably pushed the front crank seal out. What other mods do you have? Generally that happens under higher boost levels if you have a blower. Possibly just too much crank case pressure.

Lol at "breaking the law". I will rephrase and say I was allegedly going 140. Happy?
I know I would have hit a pothole down here. I'm in metro Detroit area and roads are terrible. Fairly stock car, intake, ported Throttle body, secondary cat delete and tune. |

With regards to the oil leak, since you're not FI, and the leak has not returned, I don't think it's the front seal. Must be related somehow to the catch can. I'd temporarily remove the can and do another pull

Sounds like you caught it with the catch can lines. You are very lucky that it didn't get the tires at that speed.
