Correct 3m double sided tape needed?
I'm having trouble finding the correct tape to install a carbon fiber trim piece. i bought the trim used so the original tape was removed. i need double sided and very thin like just "tape" and not the foam type.
so many 3m options on amazon i cant find the right one. any links to the proper tape would be appreciated. |

Any suggestions for something that would actually be even stronger than this one? I know this will hold fast so long as it isn't being pulled at under constant pressure to try and detach it (or at least not a significant amount of pressure). I'm thinking about trim pieces that are molded with a curve that doesn't perfectly follow the body line and would "pull" at the tape... |

There is not much stronger than this 3M tape, the slightly thicker tape may hold better but I’ve used it professionally and personally for several years, I’ve seen it hold 15 pound radios stuck to the roof of a yacht with no problems five years later. The real key is how you prep the surface. Lots of alcohol, or acetone, once you pull the tape, let it cure for a minute before you stick it on, make sure you’re using enough…So if you were going to try and attach something that was the size of a baseball/ credit card, it would be tape around the whole edge and 2-3 long strips down the middle…Any areas that are slightly still away from the surface, would require a few pieces of tape stacked on each other.

What are you thoughts on whether or not this tape could potentially hold side skirts on along the sides to avoid screwing into the rockers? I have a Sherwin Williams surface prep product (forget the name of it, but a body shop guy told me about it and called it "Pre-Clean-O" or something similar) that I use to clean vehicles paint surfaces ahead of things like pinstriping, adhering moldings, etc. You just can't let the stuff dry on the clear or it will cloud it. So, you have to Mr Miyagi it (Wipe on, Wipe off). |

I put on entire rockers with this with no screws. Again you have to make sure you use a lot of it , any place with the rocker would touch, needs tape. You can even get more Adhesion out of this tape if you do all the surfaces before after cleaning with 3M adhesive promotor.
