Rotofab cai drive ability and mpg
Question for those that completed just this mod.
Any noticeable improvement or reduction is drivability. Slow speed hesitation , tip in things like that? Improvement or reduction in mpg? Would you say this mod is definitely a improvement overall? I realize there might be a bunch of these threads but I have a a10 18 zl1 and I have been on the fence of moving to this mod along with corsa npp. Anyone who tunes have you noticed an improvement in fuel trims? Any feedback would be good! |

No noticeable anything except blower whine is a tad more noticeable. Get a CAI for looks or to support future mods which require more air. Otherwise it is an appearance mod. Here we go...

A better sound resulted in the use of this in my case, as I think most will attest.
Mileage didn't seem to really be changed. I didn't experience ANY drive-ability issues. I ran the standard RF - not the BG. For me, the rationale, when I purchased it was I knew it wouldn't bring a lot of power without a tune. I know that these cars dyno' quite well right after installation, and many people say power goes back to stock after the PCM learns. Some dyno' tests on video (a couple from CSP and RPM are what come to mind) show that stock cars, with only the RF (not the BG) showed about 20-RWHP more than the average ZL1 puts down (it seems average is around 570-ish, and these cars put down almost 600). CSP does a nice little series and it showed similar gains, with no tune, and with the tune, the gain is closer to around 30-RWHP. That was enough for me, as I knew the car would eventually be tuned. Because of all of that, I went with the RF. I never tuned with just the RF (because I have a canned-tune 2650), but I imagine torque tuning, in addition to MAF-scaling, would help to realize near 30-RWHP, and for the money, that seemed pretty reasonable. GM rates these to run about 9.5-pounds of boost but after the RF, I was right around 11 or so. If you're looking to modify down the road, I think it's a good idea. If you're looking for power with the Corsa, though, that might not give you too much until you start making some big power. If you are looking for sound, though, that seems like a great option. JMHO. Have fun.

You pay almost 500 bucks to hear a whine that's about all you get.

I swapped the cai and a ported tb at the same time. I noticed more response in the cruising range of the tb, and definitely more noise, but smileage doesn't seem to be affected much. I still get a good 30-40 smiles per gallon.
I didn't expect much hp from the change until tuned, but if I grabbed a few, then hey, add that to the list of an easily cleanable filter, and I'm fine with it. |

I paid $150 picked up 20 minutes from my house, in like-new condition, so I couldn't turn it down. I could sell it anytime for a profit. Seller with serious mods bought a Big Gulp and was eager to move it.
I love it, I would say the sound increase is very noticeable when you punch it in a tunnel or when you're close to a freeway divider wall (fast lane). My tires seem to break loose easier or more often in 2nd gear (M6), but it could be the same. |

Most of our customers are happy with the throttle response and the extra blower whine. I'm sure you'll gain a few ponies too. We never get customers just wanting to install an intake on these cars. Most do it themselves or have us do more work then just an intake. We'd love to have someone in for just an intake install and a dyno. Anyone in the Chicago are we'd install it for free if you like.

Well, I also paid almost $60k for a car I really don't need, so what's $500 for an intake? To me it's volumes more aesthetically pleasing than the stock intake. These cars should've had this style intake on it from the factory.
