Went from a 2015 Mazda 6 (four banger) to a 2019 V6 Camaro. Never test drove a V8, as I didn't want to spoil myself and the V8 was way outta my price range.
The V6 is a rocket compared to my previous car. I even wondered whether I truly need the extra power on the street. I still wonder that, honestly. The car is plenty fast for me. Was able to find a model with the NPP exhaust and I'm sooooooo glad I did. I really think it's one of the best sounding V6 cars in the US market. Only better sounding V6s are from Jaguar and Alfa Romeo, IMHO. The blind spots can be jarring but you get used to them. I bought some stick-on blind spot mirrors from Amazon for about $10.00 and they are a huge help. My biggest issues with the car are the following: 1) Shitty trunk opening. The trunk is deep enough but the opening severely compromises what you can fir in there. 2) Lack of interior storage. Center console is terrible shallow, and you barely have anywhere to store your phone besides the cup holders. 3) Lack of back seat space. I know it's a sports car, but even the Mustang has better back seats. If you're buying this car, you need to treat it as a 2 seater. Otherwise I love it. I love that the V6 can run on 87 gas, and the mileage really isn't that worse than the Turbo 4 (which requires premium). For me, the Camaro was also cheaper to insure versus some of the other cars I was looking at (i.e. WRX, Mustang, Stinger, Challenger). I may step up to the V8 in the future, but it'll depend on what else is available when I'm ready to trade in. If we get another Camaro that is slightly more practical then I'll be all over it. We'll see... |

Quality is impressive. I've had a handfull of CBRs over the years and the same is true there as well.

Nice looking rides! Back in the day I had a 2004 V6 Accord Coupe with the 6-speed manual. Crazy thing was that it was just as fast as the 2004 Mustang GT of that era lol. Rumor has it that the new Honda's (2018 on up) are not the same overall quality anymore. IDK how true that is (my girls car is only a year old) but as long as it's somewhat close, then it's still a step above and Camaro or Mustang is terms of overall quality in my opinion. The V6 in that Accord was amazing |

My first car was a 2008 Honda Accord Coupe V6 A5. It was the only automatic trans car I owned. It was a great car to start on.
After I learned driving a stick, I just couldn't do it anymore. Got into a Mazda RX-8. It's not fast, but it's nimble and the rotary engine needs a lot of love but it rewards you with the buttery smooth revs, all the way into 9000 RPM. Gonna be honest, I used to think very little of Camaros and think it's just an American pony that can't handle. I am surprised to learn that GM really stepped up the game, but here I am, after hearing about the great handling of the car, so I know exactly where OP is coming from. OP, your wife has a good point. Civic Type R's exterior is just too much. If I have to do a hot hatch, it would be either Golf R or Veloster N. Golf R is much more subtle, while Veloster N has a great price going for it and it arguably has better performance per buck than the Type R. Quote:
Another thing is that Honda's J35 tech is actually lagging behind quite a bit compared to most other V6 engines. SOHC, port injection, and it uses a timing belt that you need to replace down the line. I don't expect it to see much more development as Honda is moving towards the turbocharged I4 game like everyone else. I consider an Accord Coupe to be sporty; Honda knows their FWD cars and can make them handle well for what they are, but ultimately, it's not the same as a sports car. That one letter makes quite a big difference.

I came from a BMW M235i, great car but didnt satisfy my needs in terms of handling and feel. ZL1 blew me away in every direction.

Yeah 1LE is different, but a regular V6 Camaro and new Accord sport are surprising similar in handling believe it or not. I haven't pushed either car to its total limits, but I've pushed them pretty hard. Of course front wheel drive will have it's limitations over rear wheel drive, but in the sport tuned packages Honda has really stepped it up. Also another fun fact is I weighed both my 18 V6 Camaro and my girlfriend's 19 Accord sport. Both had a half tank of fuel as well. Mine was 3360 lbs, and hers was 3280 lbs. For a mid size 4-door sedan I was blown away

I was surprised as well lol. And like I said the Camaro may have a slight edge at the absolute limit, but anything shy of that it's very close. Also I'm comparing both cars with all season tires, and automatic transmissions. I will say that Honda's 10-speed is much better than Chevy's 8-speed. 0-60 I think these cars might be pretty close, but my girl has no clue how to race, and has no desire too lol. Considering both our cars had almost the same exact sticker price, you do get a lot of value on the Accord. Hers has has all the creature comforts, whereas mine is just the 1LT with little in comparison in that regard. Regardless, I still like the Camaro better which is why I have one of course

Me? I would still pick the Camaro V6, hands down. RWD and LSD(on the stick shift) are an immense help for grip. It represents power you can actually use off the line. If I have to take the Accord Coupe somehow, it's getting an LSD first thing. Believe it or not, I actually preferred my recent 08 Accord Sedan I4(which ended up getting flooded with my C7, RIP) to my 08 Accord Coupe V6. It's got enough pep for a family sedan, there is no timing belt to screw around with, and it gets good gas mileage. That extra power is pretty useless off the line as I mentioned earlier. It's just good for passing on the highway. If you can get grip, that is. Turbocharged 2.0L+ engine + FWD + no LSD = plenty of one wheel peel. My friend's Mazda 2.5T does the same thing and he absolutely hates it, but you can't fight against physics. Too bad Mazda doesn't sell the AWD version in North America.

And yes, her Accord will light up the tires from a dig a lot easier than mine, but surprisingly it does exceptionally well. That 10-soeed auto with the torque of that turbo make make it fairly close when it hooks |

Personally, I still have a slight bit of soft spot for them as family cars since it was my first car. I bought that 08 I4 Sedan without too much thinking, and it helps that it was an M5.

We have a current gen civic with the 1.5L turbo in coupe form. I would say comparing it to other vehicles in its class it is the best in my opinion. Comparing it to our Camaro on the other hand the only thing it does better IMO is in the fuel economy department. The civic will complain on the turns much sooner than the camaro will. Acceleration also goes to the Camaro no competition there. Basically all performance goes to our Camaro and the Camaro feels faster and more confident at any rpm levels. At least for the V8 Camaro I cannot comment on the V6 or T4 since I haven't driven those Camaro models.
My wife has a friend/coworker that has a Type R and Camaro SS 1LE. He says for a FWD car its the best but his Camaro outperforms it on the track any day. My wife had me talk to him on what he thought on the big 3 because this was before I bought my Camaro and wanted to know his reason for choosing the Camaro over the other two to help me in my purchase decision that led to the Camaro I have now. He mentioned his type R when we he mentioned he tracked his cars. I personally do not like comparing my civic to my Camaro since they imo are in different leagues and classes from each other. (apples to oranges) However that is my personal comparison between the vehicles I own and I thought adding my wife's friends comparison would help as well since he happens to own a type r and 1le SS. EDIT: Sorry my vehicle I traded in for the Camaro was Toyota Tundra 5.7L. My first vehicle was a 4.7L V8 Single Cab long bed 4x2 Ram 1500. |
