I wonder what happened to this case, hoping that the problem has been resolved.

This sucks but freak accidents do happen. My LS3 failed driving out of a parking lot. I took off smoothly, shifted from 1-3 and then to 4th and upon putting my foot back on the gas the car shut off, as if the battery died or had a short. Pulled over, went to turn the car back on and heard *clink* which was the sound of my motor locked up. Ended up snapped 3 rods and shattered 2 pistons all of which was found in the oil pan. I had just changed my oil and had not done anything abnormal yet had a catastrophic failure to that extent without even as much as a sound or smoke or smell indicating at the time I had motor issues. I had been procharged for a year or so and had heads/cam as well and my oil change showed no warning signs or metal shavings etc.
Sometimes its just down to bad luck and unfortunate timing for such a thing to occur.

Nah, I disagree with this. I have seen BMW M3's spin bearings... Ford is having problems with the new Coyote engines.

Personally, I think the reason we see more problems now with cars in general is that all companies are trying to make stuff lighter to offset all of the stupid safety requirements. As a result, they are using less metal in key areas because some study or metric indicates they can shave weight here and there. This has resulted in engines being more powerful, yet, more fragile.

Older cars/trucks were made of heavier, thicker metal and IMHO, is the reason they tend to last longer.

Ford also has had issues with their 10 speed which they also worked with Chevy on the same 10 speed.

Though Chevy 8 speed trans are a hit or miss.

Every manufacturer has their ups and downs. From Chevy to Dodge and Porsche to McLaren.

How many stock LT4 engine failures are there? Basically none - not bad for a 650 hp motor

BMW is cranking up the boost even more on their little 3.0L to get 500 hp, good luck with that - let's see how long it holds up without significant drop in compression

Wait, so oil pressure dropping to zero isn't a failure?

Or, did you mean to say that none of the LT4 have grenaded?

No offense, but my oil pump dying and the DIC telling me to shut down is an engine failure in my book.

They might be rare, but to say None would not be accurate.

ok, yes the oil pump issue - hopefully that is fixed on the 2019 and forward. Did the Z06 have the same problem?

Apparently, the LT4 oil pump on the Z06 is a different part number because the Z06 Vette uses a dry sump system, where the ZL1 Camaro is a wet sump.

So, while similar, they are not the same pump.

Well the Op that started this thread had a highly modded engine and that’s probably the reason for the engine blowing up. SteveVs engine was stock and some of the LT4 engines were built with defective pumps. GM hasn’t really owned up to this but they will repair or replace a stock engine if you do have problems with one blown up or damaged in most cases and if you still have any warranty left either 36000/36 mo.or drivetrain.
