PDR questions for first track day
Planning to take the ZL1 to the track next weekend for the first time. How do I set up the PDR?
Ie., Do I need to (or can I) download the track info into the recorder so it will show the layout and where I am on the track? Do I need to mark where the start finish line is? If so, how do I do that? Any other tips or pointers for using the PDR? |

there are some great youtube tutorials. Basically go on track and mark start/finish line on a warm up lap and it will draw the track map automatically. It uses GPS.

It stores one start/finish per SD card. Make sure you mark it on the track not in the pit lane or grid. If you mark it again it overrides the current one. Easiest to keep separate SD cards per track imo or you can backup/restore the start/finish line file for each track on a single card. Also I use MicroSD in a full sized adapter so I can copy the video to my phone for review between sessions. If you get a card above 32gb you need to format into FAT32 on a computer beforehand. Make sure it is set to Track in the choose video overlay section before you start recording. Put some painter's tape over the mic cutout on the driver's side plastic A pillar near eye level to get rid of annoying wind noise that you get on the recording when driving with the windows down.
Also if you're not familiar with it, look into the performance traction management (PTM) modes available that you might want to try. https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=496996 Last edited by cdrptrks; 05-24-2020 at 08:20 PM. |

It's annoying you have to mark the start/finish each time.

SD Cards aren't always formatted correctly. Do a test run before you track day.

Had a good first day at the track. But I did have a couple of issues with the PDR.
We did 30 min sessions. For some reason the PDR kept asking me to mark the finish line. With a lot going on inside the car (first time) I mostly just ignored the messages and drove haha. Also at one point the PDR screen went blank and I finally got it working again by removing the SD card several times. Track was a little busy so it was hard to get a solid full throttle lap on all the way around. Had a blast though. Will definitely go back. http://youtu.be/dRxWkBYf8lA |

I am certainly no racecar driver, however, you are shift points need to be adjusted. I noticed you are shifting at about 4K RPMs, take it to the limit or close to the limit each time....6.5K. Watch your heads up display, there are side markers that go from green to yellow to red. You really want to be in the yellow/red, when you shift. You will find you will be shifting less and going much faster/smoother around the track. |
