The '96 with the LT4 was a pretty decent package. Also, don't forget the ZR1 with that awesome LT5 dohc V8. I realy liked the clamshell hood with that generation. Too bad they got rid of it when the C5 came out. |

I just bought my 2SS and was contemplating the exact decision. I was seriously considering a C7. I like them both, but I wanted to be able to go with my wife and our pup (at times) and also be able to put some luggage to go somewhere for a long weekend. That just isn't an option with a Corvette. Besides... The Camaro is one hell of a car.

I think it comes down to personal taste since both are good cars. Its like asking which "position" you prefer: behind or her on top -- with the right gal you really can't go wrong in either.
One comment the sales guy said on my test drive over the weekend. He looked back to the back seat where his seat was literally touching the rear seat and questioned how the guy who traded it in took his kids in it. Then I got in the driver's seat and moved it up so I could reach the pedals. He looked back at the space and said "Oh, that's how". It's about matching the right car to the right person. While there are some "marketing" / "image" of a Corvette vs Camaro, its about driving both and seeing which one is a better fit for you. Some people are better suited for an automatic because of their commute but because I work out of my home when not traveling a stick is perfect.

(Yes, I know my IROC is not a 5th nor a 6th gen. I'm here as I am thinking about a newer convertible and I know from experience most of the Camaro forum members are helpful and understanding.... right?!?) |

I started this journey sold out on a C7 Grand Sport manual. Crazy performance for the cost.
Then I drove a new 1SS 1LE and realized that for $10,000 less for a new car with a full warranty that my kids could both sit in was a no brainer. Here’s my final tally: C7 Grand Sport +: racecar, drop dead sexy, out of my prior wheelhouse (read: fun), new and exciting. -: 2 seats is ridiculously impractical and unsustainable for a dad with an 11 year old and a 14 year old, shifter and 7 cogs just doesn’t shift well, crappy gearing compared to Camaro, few tire choices at retail, cylinder deactivation, headroom lacking, sightline too high, easy to scrape. SS 1LE +: Junior Recaros, magnetic ride, good engine, insane value, track warranty, gearing, brakes, drive anywhere, Forged wheels with good tire choices. 97% of the performance of a Grand Sport got 60% of the cost. -: Bunker seating, still heavy for a coupe. So I've owned both also and I like both. I've got a 16 C7 that I just bought about a month ago. My Camaro was really not that pleasant on the street. It didn't have very good street manners at 850 plus rwhp. I haven't done any mods to the Vet yet. Not doing anything like my Camaro and will probably keep it NA. Both have great abilities stock or even slightly modded. I'm not ruining this car like I did my Camaro like putting a cage in it or anything close to that. I actually like driving it stock but probably just a few things to make it a little more potent.

6th Gen Camaro SS manual supposedly has all the AFM hardware in place(the springloaded lifters, etc.). They just never engage, so it's basically the same of a C7 manual outside of Eco mode.

When I was shopping I was debating between an SS1LE and a C6 GS. The C6 GS was cheaper and on paper performs very similarly. However it was the interior, creature comforts and the new car percs that sold me on the SS1LE.
When it comes to a C7 they are currently more than I want to spend on a car. I wouldn't want a stingray because I like the track focus of the 1LE/GS cars so the price tag is what I couldn't do. However if I was in the market for a C7 Z06 or a ZL1 it be a tough decision but I would see myself going for the ZL1 1LE. The Camaros just offer an all around better bang for your buck in my opinion over the Vettes. However I do own a Vette, just a much older one. I own a 1971 LT1 Corvette running a Holley EFI Sniper on a fresh Blueprint 355 SBC and Q1 Coilovers in the front and rear. When it comes to classic cars I like the look and feel of Vettes.

I asked a similar question on here a while back when I was looking for a 6th gen. After test driving countless cars, SS's, zl1, stingray, z06 and cts-v, I decided on the zl1. ** I still havent teat drove a 1le, but since I'll never see a track day and the 1le gives up alot of "creature comforts", I doubt I'll go the 1le route.
I was REALLY torn between the z06 and the zl1. The deciding factor, for me, was getting in and out of it. The camaro I could get in and out normally. the vette, I just felt like I was getting out bed each time. *ie more laying in the car vs sitting*. But me being 6'3 240#, just test driving 3 vettes in the same day made me not want to get in any more of them *but they were stupid fast. Sucks to cause I have ALWAYS wanted a corvette. Maybe a c8...lol. |

I am leaning towards C7 over 1LE for next purchase still unsure. Main reason is targa top and feel like vette is just different then anything ive owned before (04 GTO, 11 Camaro)
No kids so back seat doesn't play a part. 1LE is tempting because more features, less miles and newer for usually $7-10k less. If i can find a 2SS 1LE with sunroof for a lot less than C7 I may be swayed more that way |

Good question OP. For me at 67+ years old,
it all comes down to comfort. My last play car was a fully loaded C6 vert. In Arizona a vert is great. I was looking at a C7 GS. Love the tire width. I sat in one at a dealer, I couldn't believe how uncomfortable it was, banged my head gettin in the seat bolsters were hitting me in the back of the legs. I built a SS 2S online all the goodies. A dealer here in the Valley of the Sun had it. I went and test drove it, seats were comfortable, the stereo was #%*!, I have a 2018 Jeep GC with a 900 watt amp and 19 speakers system. (option). But that's when I found out about the 2SS 1LE. For a few hundred bucks less than the 2SS with all the goodies, I can and will order a 2021 2SS 1LE, it's like I get free wider tires and Recaro seats. I will order with the 6 speed, didn't like the paddles on the 10 speed, too much lag between the gears. The LT1 motor is the same as the base motor in the C7's. Plenty of power for me... |

I had a 2015 Vette outfitted the same as my 2019 Camaro. Both awesome cars but my grandkids can ride in the Camaro and the exhaust upgrade in the 2019 is amazing. Good thing the Camaro has a back seat because the trunk is limited at best. Both mine were convertibles. I'd buy either again but will most likely stay Camaro unless they wise up and offer a manual in the new Vettes.

From personal experience they are very different vehicles in stock form. Granted, I came from a 2018 FBO SS 1LE to my 2019 C7 Z06 with a cold air and a catback with the DSC Sport V4 controller.
The Camaro was far more confidence inspiring stock but the Corvette immediately feels lighter and better balanced. But it does feel nervous at high speeds and through turns in stock trim compared to the 1LE. The 1LE was fantastic and will go down as one of my best ownership experiences. However, the Corvette is great in its own right, too. Once I got the DSC Sport controller (which is also available for the Camaro) along with their street/track alignment, it utterly transformed the Corvette.
