These windshields are indeed soft. I had mine replaced with factory glass for about $900, due to sand pitting, at 4800 miles.
I had Exoshield installed last fall, but I still have sand pits in the Exoshield, and the view is a little wavy through this plastic film. |

I've been told that the reason why you need to go OEM is that the HUD won't be seen clearly because of whatever it is that is in there to reflect the screen back properly.

Mine was replaced with OEM glass both times, the insurance company argued the first time but did it and the second time didn't say a word. The second time I was prepared to do a little cleaning to the dash. They did the work in my garage both times. Its about 1.5 to 1.75 hour job. The installer hung out for another 1.5 and talked about cars.
