Windshields soft?

I’m not sure if it’s because they’re super thin or maybe just a softer glass but I had some what seemed like light road debris come up at me yesterday and it barely even made a sound but then I noticed 2 little chips (not deep be enough to make the white marks) hopefully they can be filled to make them less visible as they’re right in my line of vision.

(pics aren’t the best sorry hard to get them to focus in)

I have broken 2 windshields in 6600 miles. 5000 of these miles are on the track though.

They won't be able to fill them. Unless there's a crack or it's really deep, surface nicks like that you just have to live with. That's what I was told by several glass shops when I got a small surface nick in mine. It sucks.

From what I have been told and read is that our Camaro windshields are thin to save on weight and will be damaged by everyday driving. The 2016 SS I had for 3 years windshield was pitted and hard to see out of at times and was repaired before SafeLite from a rock chip that happened while driving on the Interstate a year later after buying the SS.

What difference would the thickness of the glass make as far as chipping or pitting? I could see how thinner glass might be more prone to through cracks, but surface chips?

I don't know if there are soft, but I know they are a pain in the axx to try and keep clean. I thought the C7 corvette was bad, until I bought my ZL1.

I’m just going by what I was told and read. I’m not trying to be an expert by no means!

How much was the windshield when you replaced it? Also, did you replace it with an OEM windshield?

nick and chip easily...get clear protection when new with tear offs. Mine looks like holy hell after a few thousand track miles.

Cost me $0 here in Florida. There is no deductible for front windshield replacement. Would of cost about $970 if I remember correctly.

Both windshields have been OEM.

I've had multiple chips in my windshield - probably 5-6. I try to be careful, don't drive behind trucks, etc. In 40 years of driving I've only had 3-4 chips in other cars total.

I am pretty sure it is just the rear window is thinner and the front is normal thickness for safety reasons.

Didn't GM mention the ZLE had thinner glass?
