Now i do not have any DTC’s. I’m very happy.
I got massive help from a very nice gentle man working in HP tuners UK. (Technical Sales Engineer). You are very kind man Paulius.. I don’t know if it’s okay to write his name here, but really i have to mention. The Question is : what to do if you have DTC’s after TCM replacement. - you need full charged battery. Don’t do any tune or replacement with weak battery. - You need internet while you do next steps, and vcm must be up to date. - always when do ignition must press the start engine about 6-7 seconds to be all functions work. - Lets say you have the new HP unlocked TCM in the car now, and you have problems with DTC’s or check engine light. Do the next steps: 1- go to (( C:\Users\....\Documents\HP Tuners\VCM Scanner\Modules and remove the file for their stock TCM )). I mean delete the files. Delete everything. Or use All new PC did not used before with this car. 2- Start VCM scanner, put MPVI2 in cars ODPII port , then ignition on, use VCM scanner to scan DTC’s ,and delete all DTC’s. 3- Ignition off , remove MPVI2 from the cars odbII port . Remove the battery cable. 4- Put the (stock TCM) in the car. 5- putt back battery cable. 6- put MPVI2 in the port , ignition on ,now use (VCM scanner Beta) , go to Replace TCM , tell the Stock TCM in the car .. next... complete. 7- ignition off , remove MPVII , remove battery again. Give it 5 min. 8- putt the cable again, and start the car . 9 - now tern engine off . Put MPVI2 in the port , ignition on , next scan DTC’s ..you don’t have any DTC’s ( i hope so ). Now your car stock. Next comment will be how to replace to new TCM without DTC’s Last edited by f.d; 05-12-2020 at 08:32 PM. |

If I’ve followed along here, this is a summary of what you’ve purchased and installed.
1) Bought unlocked TCM from HPT (T87A) 2) Swapped stock TCM with unlocked TCM 3) New unlocked TCM caused many DTC’s (as it has with many other people) 4) Utilized above procedure to swap stock TCM back in car and no DTC’s Now you are going to swap unlocked TCM back in car and this time you expect no DTC’s? Did HPT give you a procedure on the install that is different from your original install? Is that what you mean? “Next comment will be how to replace to new TCM without DTC’s”

I haven't had my TCM unlocked yet, but was looking into it.
This is the procedure HPTuners tells you to use right from day 1 when you order the replacement TCM... It is posted right in the information and order sections. You need to copy the data from your existing TCM and update the new one for all the controllers. Thats why there is a built in function right in VCM Scanner. If you are just getting your existing TCM unlocked you can skip this step as the information remains in the controller. This is a case of missing/not following the instructions from HP Tuners as apposed to a bug. At least in this case for a change. HPTuners Order page: "Lastly, once you receive your TCM from us, ensure you follow the Replace T87A TCM Instructions." The underlined part is a link to the instructions, which i posted below. http://www.hptuners.com/pub/T87A%20I...on%20Steps.pdf

Now i do have in the car : New Unlocked TCM from HP tuners . And i did Transmission tune today 2 times and no DTC’s. Thankfully Here the preceder to swap from (Stock TCM) to (New Unlocked TCM). Notes: - Must have internet & very good Charged battery. - always when do ignition must press the start engine about 6-7 seconds to be all functions work. - Be sure you did delete the file/files we did talk about in previous comment. Now stock TCM in the car and we will start from here: Be sure there are no DTC’s , like a new car, or like you changing the TCM first time. - open VCM scanner beta, put MPVI2 in the port, now ignition on . connect the car to VCM scanner. - start the preceder to change TCM , question come: is the stock TCM in the Car (answer yes). Next ... ok. And coming: replace the TCM now. - Keep MPVI2 in the port , remove battery cabel. - Put the new unlocked TCM in the car , put battery cable back, ignition on. - start the TCM swap preceder, question come: Is the Stock TCM in the car now (answer No ) and follow to the end. - write/ flash the (first original file you did read , The file you did not make any tune). Now it must stock car with unlocked TCM. - Disconnect the car from VCM scanner beta. Ignition off, Remove MPVI2 from the port. Start the engine , put the transmission on D , N ,R , P ( Be carful if the wheel not in the place). - Engine off - MPVI2 in the port , ignition on , connect the car in vcm , Read DTC’s No DTC’s , From here you can tune the transmission, but put in your mind ( do small changes in the tune) and write the file to the car. And after 100-200 mil du new small changes. There’s a history file. And the transmission have hard shifting with big changes. Just do small changes Hope i did something useful for you all Last edited by f.d; 05-12-2020 at 08:32 PM. |

Just must replace TCM probably, then read the Unlocked TCM and save the file. Don’t lose the file, do copy. Note: read only the TCM without ECM Good luck |

Now please question for you:
As i know something it always must be like this: In cars: - Part throttle shift speed point in (100% throttle position) must be matching ( Full throttle shift speed points WOT) But in camaro in the stock file they not match, i can not find a reason why not match. WOT= wide open throttle. Hope someone explain to me Last edited by f.d; 05-09-2020 at 12:41 AM. |

I am almost positive HP Tuners does not calibrate the new TCM's they ship out with the solenoid calibration info from your VIN#. This requires a MDI tool and a TIS web subscription. |

WOT Shift MPH is one of thoes trial and error things, you can set your RPM's for what you think it should be, then you just have to keep increasing or decreasing the MPH until you find it is shifting at the right RPMs. |

That was my thinking, But i did what i wrote to you in the 2 previous comment, and I don’t have DTC’s Now. . • Two 2 Fault not to du while TCM replacing: 1- trying to read stock TCM , you can't read it and i am worry about trying to read it. 2 - under TCM replace preceder: when questions come: Is the Stock TCM in the car now ( here i did mistake) and i will write what i did mistake and what supposed to do. Let’s say you are doing replacement first time , no DTC’s , no files need to delete in your PC. Stock TCM in the car, You start the preceder, question come : is the Stock TCM in the car now .. (( Do Yes )) When you change the TCM to new Unlocked TCM and start preceder again, question come: is Stock TCM in the car now (( Do no )) and follow the little steps.. - In my case i did in the 2 questions (yes) & (yes). Then i get manny DTC’s. Then i used all new PC and did the steps i wrote to you in the long comments before. I’m not smart in turning, i get very big help from the person i did mention. Give the try , i know it’s hard to reach TCM in Camaro. Good luck Last edited by f.d; 05-12-2020 at 08:38 PM. |

Please question again: need your answer
Here i am speaking about the stock file i did read from TCM. - Part throttle shift speed point in (100% throttle position) must be matching ( Full throttle shift speed points WOT) But in camaro in the stock file they not match, i can not find a reason why not match. Why there are differences? WOT= wide open throttle. |

CMITCHELL17 was the first post I read where new unlocked TCM swap caused codes. KILLABEE had issues too. Others have also posted here as well as HPT forums with issues. Maybe I missed a post someplace where someone successfully swapped a new unlocked TCM without getting codes, but again, I don’t recall reading about that happening. However your posts outline specific internet connectivity where HPT USA doesn’t mention that step. You sure did something right and have results with a successful swap and no DTC’s. For that reason I responded yesterday outlining what you had done because it sure appeared you were going to post another procedure with good results. Thanks for sharing!
