Dead Battery How to Get the Car in Neutral?

Guys, my battery is dead and I cant get the car started with a jump.

I offered to remove it and bring the battery to the dealer, but they want the car as they want to test the system as a whole.

For my own understanding, (Ive got an A10) how do I get it neutral with no power? Im not sure flat be driver will have an idea?

Thanks
Pat

You need enough power to run the car's computers. If the battery is too low then hook up jumper cables to power up the car.

With your foot OFF the brake pedal hold the Start button down for at least 7 seconds. This puts the car in "Run" mode as if the engine was running (even though it isn't). The radio and dash should power up. Now you can put your foot on the brake to make the car release the shift lock and shift the transmission into neutral. Just FYI that if you only hold the Start button down for a few seconds then the car goes into "Accessory" mode where the radio works but the car won't release the shift lock.

Good luck with the car!

Don't all autos have a manual release? Owners manual will tell you where. Typically near the shifter.

Thanks Ill look.

Any harm if I have to turn the wheels? Not sure a flat bed is going to get into my driveway and be able to back in to get it out of the garage?

Im thinking ive got to push it out and turn it 90deg. So the flat bed can get it.

No, no harm in turning the wheels. It will just be more difficult without the power steering assist. If your driveway is on a slope then be prepared for the brakes to take more pressure without power assist too.

Thanks guys.

Ill need to move it into neutral manually as its so dead nothing happens now when you put jumper cables on it.

Its a 1LE and the seat doesnt fold down I dont think (I looked and didnt see anything to pull it down with) so how do they even get to the battery?

Also without the Tow Eye (also in the trunk) is there a safe place to pull it up onto the flat bed from?

Sorry for the 21 questions

Why don’t you take the battery out and take it to them to test. If it’s no good then have them give you a new one. Install it then drive it to the dealer for further diagnosis as to why it’s completely dead. If that’s exactly the problem. It eliminates the flatbed. Unless the dealer is too far to make the couple trips back and forth.
Just strange the battery would be that dead on a 2020 vehicle.

The ZL1 1LE rear seat does fold forward. The posts at the end of this thread look like you can release the latch from inside the car with a trim tool.

If you can't get the seat down then maybe contact the dealer before the flatbed arrives to see if they will loan you a tow hook from one of the cars they have on the lot?

I agree about a new battery being dead.

Im good though, got in the trunk and removed the battery and took it to the dealer.

I was going to have it towed as they wanted the whole car but spoke to the service advisor and told him I wanted just take him the battery and not go through the hassle of tow.

Even OnStar just told me it was dead lol.

They have it now and will get me a new battery later today.

Thanks guys.

Can you please provide some useful info for the rest of us...
Did you try the trunk release with a charger or jump battery hooked to the terminals under the hood?
How did you finally get to the battery?

Sure..

The car was completely dead when I tried to jump it with another car. Zero in the way of any life.

I actually went and bought a portable jumper. Its a battery operated one but also has a plug in option as well.

That got power on everything and I was able to open the trunk.

Ive got the new battery installed and all is right with the world now. :-)
