another catch can question

While doing research, I found a ton of info and opinions. Sounds like a good idea. A few people have suggested that our Camaro's already have technology to address this. Just checking before I order one.

Thanks

I just ordered the mishimoto one. I heard from someone else that there's a factory catch can or something. I have no idea where that is coming from. It's just a standard PCV system that injects those oil vapors into the intake. Its even worse with these direct injection engines.

Doesn't cost much for peace of mind, I got the JLT from Phastek, pennies compared to the price of the car or other mods and even if it doesn't do anything, it's peace of mind and took me like 15 mins to install.

Going back to the "it doesn't do anything", it boils down to people who have installed them and gotten a good amount of blowby in it which is the majority, those that installed it and got very little to none, and those who have never tested one because "snake oil" even though the haven't tested it when there's people who have results.

As for the Camaro having technology for this, I believe it was mentioned previously that GM almost added a Catch Can at the end of production but decided against it last moment, because you can't trust people cleaning it every 5000 miles or so.

I have a Mishimoto catch can on my SS 1LE and won’t run a direct injection engine without one. Everyone has an opinion on these, but the fact is they DO filter put a good amount of condensed water, Unburnt fuel and oil vapor.. it’s a foul smelling sludgy mess. I empty my can every 1000 miles and get quite a bit of this slurry in the can every time.

There is a factory plastic catch can. If looking at the motor, to the left of the intake the black plastic box with three hoses coming out of it, that's it. It's a POS though, and the one under the throttle body going direct to throttle body is what needs to be trapped also.

The factory "catch can" is just on the fresh air side of the PCV, there is nothing on the dirty side.

That's the fresh air side right?
Does it just drain back in to the crankcase or what?

HEADS UP ON MISHIMOTO:
So I have on my 1le. Thing works wonders. BUT! The way the bracket is designed, the can sits close as holy hell to the valve cover. Heard a what I thought was endlink rattle. Turns out doing my oil change yesterday, it was the can tapping the valve cover from normal engine movement. Tried to see if I could shift the bracket; didn’t work. Realized I could just bend the bracket downward after install just slightly to allow clearance. It’s honesty a no brainer. Just be aware if you install one. I guess also one could slot the holes in the strut tower side of the bracket.

Also fairly surprised that the plastic valve cover...cover.. rubbed the aluminum knurling down just a little bit on the can...kinda funny. Kinda not. I’ll post a pic if anyone is interested.

I've had my Mishimoto on my 2020 2SS for about 1,000 miles now and have had no rubbing issues. I just went and looked (after seeing this post) and I have at least 3/8" of clearance on the plastic valve cover cover and absolutely no signs of rubbing whatsoever...

I will certainly keep an eye on this (thank you for pointing this possibility out) but at this time I don't see an issue...

Thanks. I know there's been a lot of discussion about this. I'm going to try out a JLT.

I like my JLT a lot. Don't forget to lube the o ring with used oil every time you screw the canister on or you'll have a bear of a time unscrewing it in 2000 miles.
