Tree Sap Etched

I have a major problem with tree sap that I’m hoping you guys can point me in the right direction toward fixing.

Last summer, I didn’t drive the car for about a week and left it parked outside under a tree. The next weekend when I washed my car, I noticed really bad tree sap etched into the clear coat. Since then, I’ve tried CG bug and tar remover and clay bar‘ing, each to no avail. The sap seems to be pretty severe based on individual specks that are pretty large and can be felt as well as a general sort of cloudiness that can be felt with the hand as well. Neither has been diminished really at all with either the bug and tar remover or the clay bar

Any recommendations?

Chainsaw. Trees are evil.

Then seek out a professional to do a paint correction.

Strip down any waxes/polishes/sealants, etc... then you will have to at the very least have to polish, preferably with a D/A polisher to get out those sap areas. Don't think you will need a compound, but possibly. Use a good polish and a good polishing pad.

Any recommendations on polish to use/compound in the case that the polish does not work?

My preference for polish is Carpro Essence, compound Carpro Clear Cut. I would first do sone sort of strip/wipe down before polishing, either a 75%/25% IPA/ distilled water or my preference is Carpro Eraser, I like it better than the alcohol/water wipe down. If you have a polisher it would be easier and better than doing it by hand.

Try IPA, or hand sanitizer with IPA in it. Usually works really well.

I would use something like our TAR or any adhesive remover to remove the sap. Then you will have to machine polish to remove the etching if it's not too deep.

I’ll try polishing with essence this weekend and post an update.

If that fails, I’ll try and get some ipa to use.

Thanks a lot for all the advice.

I wouldn't use Carpro Essence for this purpose. It doesn't have much abrasive in it. The same abrasives as Carpro Reflect finishing polish, but less of them.

If it did manage to remove it, your pad will be ruined from the sap, and could potentially mar the paint.

Try IPA first.

For cleaner SC1 motorcycle cleaner made by maxima. You can get it from any motor cycle shop. Works well on tree marks on our atv and snowmobiles. It comes in a aerosol can. I would try that first before trying aggressive polishes
