So I've been in touch with a GM certified shop that was going to flush my transmission because of shudder issues, but thanks to the pandemic that's not happening because GM ordered their approved shops to have sick leave until the end of April at the very least. At least that's what I heard from them. Either way, I now have a car that doesn't drive that great and I cant imagine that in the long run this will be good for the converter, so I want to ask for tips on what to do, or how bad driving it would be, is it safe to assume that any potential damage will be covered under warranty even if I was aware of said problem? Because this is my daily, and (also thanks to corona) I'm out of a job so not exactly financially safe, I can't really get a beater right now to drive in the mean time. What's the worst case scenario, converter shits out and they have to put a new one in? (Seems that is usually what it takes to get rid of the damn shudder anyway) any help appreciated

What do you mean, the shudder has nothing to do with paddle shifting manually vs letting the computer shift, it happens regardless

I had the A8 shudder in two trucks but when I drove more aggressive it would go away . Maybe that would help a little.

Mine shuddered a whole lot less in manual mode

An AFM Disabler seems to help some. At least that’s what I’ve heard anyway. I don’t know if anyone can verify that though.

Yes, according to Chevrolet the shudder does slowly cause damage over time but I can’t imagine that driving a few weeks will make that much difference. Many shops take a week or more to schedule the flush anyway. Minimize the amount you drive and you should be fine.

My Camaro had the shudder and it seemed more noticeable when shifting in and out of V4 mode. You can reduce the amount of time the engine spends in V4 mode by driving in manual shift mode. If you downshift and then upshift the engine will stay in V8 mode. That’s easier to do driving on a highway than in town. You can put the dash in a mode to display which mode the engine is running (V4 or V8) if that helps.

I'm not 100% on the Camaro automatic, but in GM trucks you can put in manual and then shift it to 7th and that will stop the shuddering. In the trucks, the trans will still shift normally on its own, even down to first at stops, it just won't engage the 8th gear overdrive. Not sure if this will work in the Camaro, but it won't hurt it to try.

Is it possible to do a drain and refill with the new fluid? I don't have an automatic, so I don't even know if the pan has a drain.
The problem is water in the old fluid, which preferentially accumulates on the transmission clutches causing irregular engagement and premature wear. Changing all the old fluid to new is the preferred solution. Driving the car in such a way that it shifts less often might help. A partial fluid change might also help.

Yes, it is possible but it is a complex process. I don't think there is a drain plug and I know there isn't a fill tube. Another problem is that you can't easily flush the lines and cooler. I wouldn't recommend trying to do it at home when you can wait a week or two and have it done free and correctly at the dealership.
