High RPMs most of the time - how healthy?
Hi! I have the 2.0T RS with automatic transmission. I see that if I press the paddles and hold to downshift, it goes in the lowest possible gear while keeping high RPMs.
How healthy is that for the engine and transmission? Being just an inline 4, the noise that it makes sounds like struggling. But it’s very fun to drive like that. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks! |

its healthy righ up till it blows.....
The engines will rev no problem but why wind em out so much. The 2.0 Turbo makes GREAT low end torque...

To hold it at a specific high rpm for a few seconds at a time is no big deal, but to sit there at like maybe 5-6k or so isn't all that good. And there's really no good reason to do that anyways, so I'm not sure why it's necessary or even a viable option

I don’t met the lint of doing that but first of all you have to determine high rpm’s. Where does the red line starts? How high are you running the engine?

If you’ve seen the validation test OEM’s use in engine durability testing you will see that the rpm limiter is set very conservatively in stock engines. GM ran the LT1 Gen V engines at WOT throttle for days on end during this testing without issue. Modern lubricants, tighter machining tolerances, and higher quality parts have pushed the old 100k mile validation mark to 200k miles now. I wouldn’t worry too much unless you are running a modified engine.

I just checked, even in sport mode with performance setting active, it doesn’t go over 5000. I think that’s fine, right? Most of the time I like to floor it, which goes into performance mode and then running higher RPMs, but from what I see, not more than 5000
