how does it work? Buy a car...in todays world

interested in buying another camaro...I want to buy a 2020 and currently have a 2017 camaro with only 7800 miles...I see these things on chevy dealer websites where they will come to your house and trade in the car and do all the paperwork and exchange it for you at your driveway...Questions - I still owe some money on my camaro, will they pay it off for me and give me a few thousand on a trade off? How will they do the paperwork and license if the car is out of state like 80 miles away? Do they transport the car to my house on a truck or will the salesman drive it to my house (which I don't want anyone to do) how will they know what shape my car is in to make a deal without seeing and driving it first? I am sure they will run my credit which is good but is that 0% for 84 months and deferred paymentt for 3 months just a scam? I mean how does this process work? Am I better off with a broker or would that be too expensive? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Lots of good questions. Honestly, I’d just find the car I like and call that dealership with all of those questions.

if your credit is excellent the 0% for 84 is awesome. if you want the car flat bedded they will charge you and usually they will ask you to give an honest description of your car send some pics and will give you a number over the phone. They charge you for home delivery as well even without a flatbed. If you owe money they will handle paying off and they will either give you a check for the difference or apply it to the new car as a down payment. They will give you a temp plate and it will be your responsibility to register the car unless you buy from a mass dealer then they handle the reg for you which could be a pain right now as at least in my area they are extending the temp plates until the virus stuff blows over. I can only renew online or if I need to get plates for a new car I have to make several trips down to town hall and drop off money and pick up plates its a mess right now.
I personally would just call around make your deal then drive to the dealer sign some paperwork and drive away with your new car should take less then 1/2 hour. I just did this for my 2020 gmc 2500 at4 diesel live in NH bought it in Maine.

In certain states you aren’t buying a car period right now because Dealers are considered non-essential & ordered closed. Other states it is working by appointment with the dealer. Dealers are just as stiff now as they were before current events, really they seem to be in no rush or even trying to sell stock and expect low trade value, and understand that rebates are nothing special right now. If you have a nice 2017 Camaro that you love I’d say keep it, enjoy it, and happy modding.

Hi! Do your homework and know what your 2017 is worth! I don't recommend 84 months financing, because
(1) You won't be able to negotiate the price of the 2020 with too much success. Already giving you a break, because they're not making anything off the financing.
(2) You'll be upside down on your loan in short time as the balance remaining on your 2017 will be added to your new loan and depreciation on top of that!
You can do all negotiation over the phone and come to an agreement. I recommend looking at a lot of pictures from your dealership.
Both you and the dealership are relying on each other's word about vehicle condition, without actually seeing them in person.
If you reach an agreement, say they bring the car to you. You absolutely have the right, to refuse the deal if there is something you don"t like about the car. But don't expect them to be happy about it. Get all of your questions answered and details worked out BEFORE delivery. Also get the financing worked out BEFORE taking delivery.
When it comes to delivery, I suppose that is between you and the dealership. They may charge you extra to have it delivered on a trailer. If someone drives it out, I doubt any extra charge. Can't expect them to trailer it for free!
Hiring a broker: You are essentially hiring this person to
(1) Look the 2020 Camaro over for you and determine if it is what you want.
(2) Evaluate it's condition and report to you.
(3) Get the best out the door price for you.
Since it is out of state sale, you'll have to pay tax and license up front. Difference between your state's tax rate and the seller's state tax rate could be higher or lower. If your state is lower , you would be issued a refund from the DMV when you license the car.
Brokers do get a fee and that is also negotiable with them.
The current promotion of 0 percent for 84 months isn't a scam, it is a real promotion. I recommend you do your own dealing and negotiating and use your trade as the down payment and any additional you can put down. Try financing for a less amount of time. Loan rates are cheap right now with good credit.

Most dealership salespeople are selling online and that’s how you buy a vehicle at the present time. Yes the dealership will pay your 2017 off and give you what’s left of the trade in value on the 2020. If you find a 2020 online then give the dealership a call and talk to a salesperson and they will walk you through what needs to be done to get that new Camaro. No worries if that’s what you want to do! Good luck!

Not too sure about this. I bought my car used with 735 miles on it from a Chevy dealer in Florida. Paid with a bank check, no trade in. They put on a temporary Florida plate and I had it shipped by carrier to New Jersey and met the truck to take delivery. I then had a month to take the title to NJ MVC to get it registered and paid the sales tax at that point.

Might be different if the car is financed and the dealer holds the title until the loan is paid.

Guess it depends on what State you buy the car in as to the way the deal is done. I bought my used ZL1 in South Carolina last year and had a trade in(2016 SS) plus money down and the dealership did everything for me and all had to do was wait for the tag decal in the mail from my local tag office. They even paid my 2016 off and gave me what was left to put on the ZL1.

Any dealer will be very happy to have your business right now. Dealers are open in my area as they are considered "essential" and they might be in your area too. I would call first and make an appointment. If you are allowed to visit and feel comfortable visiting, observe social distancing, wear a face mask if you want to, wash your hands often, use hand sanitizer, etc. If you prefer not to visit, they will work with you over the phone, may come visit you depending on the distance, appraise your car, even drive the vehicle to you for a test drive.

Best way is call and find out what options you have- and if you feel safe with pursuing any of those options.

I bought my 2020 out of state last month.
Process went like this
Called and got their lowest price with all my added discounts
Told them my trade, sent many pictures or trade
Haggled for a while on best deal for trade
Virtual handshake so we were all in good faith
Drove 600+ miles, did all paper work
Dealer handled out of state tags and taxes
Drive home

Your difference is they will drive to you with said paper work.

People on here make it sound a lot easier than it actually is. What I’ve seen is no attempt to draw a potential customer in or anything. Just playing their way or the highway no matter what, they give you a trade amount and it’s take it or leave it even if it’s definitely low balling.

Kind of sad because I see dealerships doing this around me even... we're essential business here and we're still trying to sell like no tomorrow.
We're just as aggressive offsite/online as we are in person though because we want to sell the car.

We're very cognizant of rules with being open right now, abiding by social distancing and if a customer wants to test-drive a car now we have policies in place where virtually all of them are solo test-drives right now.

I can't say how GM is doing it, but Ford and CDJR allow us do do most everything remotely and drop the car off for the customer with virtually no interaction at all with a person as a pre-caution in these times. With the 0% for up to 84mo and deferring up to six payments its a great time right now.

I've been getting people calling in on specific new and used vehicles, negotiating over the phone/email/text, doing a credit app online (if trade is involved its sight-unseen, value could go up if we have a chance to do an in-person appraisal), sell gap and other insurances via the phone and then contracts and such are sent electronically. I walk them through just as I would in person and everything is e-Sign and BOOM! delivered to you... HAPPY NEW CAR DAY!!

I pick up my new Silverado on Thursday. I knew what I wanted and my dealership found it. I'm in Northern Wisconsin and the truck came from Southern Indiana. I'm trading in my 2018 Silverado and they're doing whatever is required to pay my existing loan off and arrange financing on the new one. I'm going with the 2.9% interest rather than the 0.00% because I'd rather have the bigger rebate. It was quite a problem finding the truck because as others mentioned some dealerships aren't open and or aren't really trying very hard. If your dealership can't do what mine did I'm thinking you need another one. Overall I think it's a good time to buy because the auto industry is hurting and seemed willing to work with you. They will do whatever is necessary to get you the car you want.
