The helms USB drive is a bit of a bitch to actually use. First, you have to have it in the USB slot (you can't just copy the PDF from the disk). They have it locked down now where you can no longer print single pages, take screenshots, etc the last I checked (I have the service manual for the 5th gen, and about 4 months ago Helm sent me an email saying to update the software used to decrypt the USB drive). IMO its well worth the extra spend to get the physical manual.
That being said, the service manuals are second to none.

My 2 year old version bugs out with the latest version of Adobe Reader. It says it's a corrupted file on the latest versions. I just use an older version or play around with Reader until it finally loads.

Wow!!!! The USB version used to cost $250.

Now it’s $350!!!!!!

What are they thinking ?!? Jesus, talk about cost of living increases !!

You would think with so many Youtubers out there doing videos they would make these manuals more affordable to compete with all the free information available on YouTube and google.

What was I thinking??!? Lol.

That’s one of the reasons why I hesitate to get the USB.

Computers are a pain in the ass !!!

Yeah, having to plug the USB stick in sucks quite a bit, I can't transfer the service manual to my phone either.

I found a workaround, though, by printing it to XPS as backup, but the XPS file is just ten thousand pages of flat images that work like paper, no search, no links, no diagram highlighting...

Thats why they had me update the software; it did work around that problem, but eliminates the ability to print, screenshot, etc :|

My 2yr old copy did the same thing but they have drivers on their web site that made mine work with the new Adobe Reader DC. (except for the search feature).

Has it really been $350 for that long? I looked back at a post I made last year on this thread when I was first considering getting a manual and I mentioned it was $250. Maybe it was a typo on my part.

Thank you for posting this. I can deal with $15 per job to look up the info I need.

I wish that site had info for Ford and Dodge as well.

I found the way to install a compatible version of Adobe Reader on Windows 10 that works with the GM Service Manual USB Key. Printing and all search features work!

1. Uninstall the current version of Adobe Reader.
2. Download the file from Adobe's archive https://supportdownloads.adobe.com/t...07&fileID=5519
3. Install the file, make sure to check "manually check for updates (not recommended)" during the installation process. This will keep you from getting a newer version that doesn't work.

*save a copy of this installation somewhere in case Adobe removes their archive.

You should just be able to change the default program to open pdf files to get in. Thats the first thing helm has you try; usually works, but the new package for the encryption software changes the game a bit with it.
