I literally just sold my M7 Z06 Saturday and have a 18 Zl1 manual. I’m fortunate enough to have all three tbh (A8 C7Z) as well. I sold my M7 which put down 700 rwhp bc in Mexico it was not fun losing to the modern auto’s of today (roll racing). I’m gunna keep my manual Zl1 and mod my A8 Z06. Op think long and hard abt your decision. I absolutely loved my manual Z and even in Houston rush hour was no big deal to me. If you are into fun cars and having a connection keep the M7 Z. If you are gunna race it or daily it I guess get the zl1 A10. My z06 gets wayyyy more attention btw than The zl1.

Yep, boring. I preferred my Z/28 actually, by quite a bit. I had a number of people tell me they found the ZL1 (and Z06) to be pretty boring as well, but I figured it was just them. Turns out, its just not as engaging of a ride.

Your personal circumstances and what you want from the performance car you drive should dictate which car you should own. Also, the financial considerations and depreciated value of your Z06 should be considered. I used to like manual shifting but after knee replacement and leg injury, I no longer find shifting gears as rewarding. I own a C7 Z06/Z07 A8, C7 ZR1/ZTK, C6 427 M6, Gen5 Camaro SS A6 and a Gen6 ZL1 A10. The LT4 in the Z06 and ZR1 is a great performing engine. The claim the C7 A8 is faster than the manual. IDK. The C7 is a faster car compared to the ZL1 as stock due to the ZL1 weight. The ZL1 is a better street driver; especially with the A10. The ZL1 A10 is the finest transmission GM offers. It can be manually shifted on the console if you want to "simulate" shifting and it can also be shifted with the steering wheel paddles. The shift points and timing are far superior on the A10. I loved the A10 in my ZL1 so much, I ordered the A10 on my 2019 Silverado High Country. Whenever I feel a need to row the gears I drive the C6 427 which is still thrilling for me to drive. For what you are trying to accomplish, I think it is a wise move for you to get the ZL1 with the A10 transmission. Good luck.

my 15 z06 z07 pkg has more clearance then my 2018 zl1 1le. both are manuals and I was stuck in bumper to bumper traffic for two hours last july in the z06 and would not trade the manual for an auto until i can't physically shift it and lord willing hopefully thats a long time from now

Cancelled my C8 order to purchase a ZL1. Like the extra room in the ZL1 as well as it is approximately 4 inches higher. Much easier to get in and out of. Seems every time you turn around you see a Corvette. I have never seen another ZL1 on the road. Much prefer the sleeper aspect of the ZL1.

Not really a lot of any of that on the back roads I drive on...although there is some livestock in fields lol Its mostly woods (well, Florida woods...so more like a jungle) and road, and after 10p, there's *barely* anyone on them ever. But I also don't go tipping into triple digits frequently, and don't race people either, so not too concerned about it.

Drove a Z28 and it was exciting. Then drove the 6th gen ZL1 and was blown away by the speed, handling, and comfort compared to the Z28.
Your desire seems to be more for a Z28. You should probably start looking for one of those to get that thrill you want back. As for me, I want to win, and look good doing it, while driving in comfort. So the ZL1 for me! |

I didnt intend to get rid of mine. It was supposed to be put into auction since it was modified and I was going to buy it right back, but they went and sold it even though they said they couldnt (fkrs). I think I might go check out a ZLE though, since its the evolution for the Z/28 basically, and outside of the discomfort of the seats, that may give me the raw feeling back...I can always remove the pins in the seats to get some more lean. I'm likely to buy another Z/28, I just havent decided whether I'm going to keep them both, or get rid of the ZL1...if the ZLE hits the sweet spot though, that could replace a Z/28 potentially. I just prefer the raw "you, the car, and the road" feeling. Although I had been looking at the Z06 too...wonder if I can get by w/o a back seat...maybe just strap a kid to the roof lol. As you can tell, its all up in the air (mainly waiting on divorce to see what happens; who knows, maybe I'll end up in a 1995 ford escort GT instead lmao). I pretty much change out cars yearly anyways, so theres actually a good chance over the next few years, I'll have all of them at some point. Last edited by HoodCheck; 03-13-2020 at 12:35 PM. |
