New owner with couple of questions

I just recently bought a used 19 A10 vert. I would like to get the front grille and hood a PPF. The local Sunket installer said that you cannot wrap the grille or hood without using several pieces. I assumed PPF would be seamless. The vehicle he showed me had lots of edges that collected dust, which he said was unavoidable. Is this correct?

My second question is about the launch control and performance timing. Is there any way to get a 0-60 time while using the launch control?

Thanks

Nice colour.

The thicker the PPF the more dust it collects on the outer edges.

Depending on the product, you can ceramic coat over the PPF and that will reduce the dust.

I can't speak to the launch control but I'm sure you'll have your answer soon.

Depending on the software they use to cut the Pattern, there will be seams. The guys that spend the money on quality patterns will have one seam only. The lower bumper is one piece, with a seam joining the very most upper section. If done right, it is almost invisible unless you are specificly looking at it.

I don't understand why the hood won't be one piece. I have the product on my bumper and it is in multiple pieces because of the angles/curves. If the product comes in 6ft widths, no reason the hood couldn't be one piece and the carbon fiber center is another piece.

He told me that it only comes 18" wide. He must not want to buy a 72" roll.

If you look on the Xpel website, under templates, you can easily see the shape of the pre-cut pieces

A good wrap or PPF will be seamless.

Nice car and welcome!

You'll find there's a huge difference between a good wrap and a cheap one. Hell, there's a pretty big difference in a good one and a great one. I have PPF on my car and the hood in one piece and the carbon insert one piece. The front bumper is another story and is usually done in a few pieces AFAIK, but I'm sure with a talented enough team you might be able to do it with less (I think my bumper is probably 3-4 pieces - seams by the headlights and down near the fog lamps).

I'd advise you to call around and see examples. I did a fair amount of research and found price and quality differs greatly. Guys in my area were quoting anywhere from $1200 to $6000 for the same work. I ended up going with the middle of the road option -about $2500, and I could've spent a bit more honestly.

Also, don't be afraid to ask them to redo spots you're unhappy with. When I first went to pick up my car, there were a few really bad spots which I pointed out and was unhappy with and he redid them without too much fuss.

1. When you say grill, I assume you mean the black plastic insert right? Because yeah, I don't think anyone wraps those usually. As far as a seamless install, there are two types. People who use the pre-cut kits, and those who wrap the car, then cut the PPF. Find out which when you call.
2. I'm fairly certain you can get the 0-60 timer on the dash, as I see if referenced here often enough to believe it's a thing.
:edit: Yup, google "ZL1 0-60 timer"

This feels like outdated technology that gives too much pain to installers and, in many cases, customers as well. Haven't done much research on the subject, but a spray-on PPF product would be an absolute, instant game changer. These modern day complex body lines are simply impossible to do correctly (as in, with 100% invisible wrapped and tucked edges that never peel or collect dust), I've seen lots of wrap jobs, none of them was appealing enough to make me want to pony up $3000 and upwards.

And if my past experience is a reliable indicator, the simple reason I thought of it means someone must have already patented and begun marketing spray-on PPF or something similar

The front bumper on these cars is a big pain! You will have seams, but if you have a good installer, they will barely be visible. Most people won't even notice them.

Topaz Detailing in London does spray on PPF. They call it Topaz Skin, and they usually change the color, per the YouTube videos of theirs I have seen.

Thanks, I must not be pushing the brake hard enough. It wasn't holding the rpm that I had set under launch menu.
I meant front bumper not grille. They said it would be at least 6 pieces to do the front bumper. They also said that Suntec would not stick to the splitter or the rocker panels, which I didn't understand as they are painted like everything else.

My Xpel front clip wrap appears to be seamless on hood and CF vent.

Front bumper and facscia have some seams in logical very angular places but doesn't seem to matter, still looks great.
