Anybody Up their insurance value after mods?

I spoke to my insurance company and they said they will cover my mods as long as i have recpts and pics. If i base the car value after mods at $70k(estimate for now) my insurance would go up $374/year. Of course this wont cover an accident if racing.

I had to add a new "comprehensive for customizing equipment" section with a limit and a deductible, and they cover everything within that bracket. With a $2500 limit and $100 ded, it came out to $16 per pay period (6 months).

Figure out how much you have in mods and if you can afford (or would want to) replace them in the event of an accident.

My personal entry is $10k. Anything less, I don't bother unless it's really inexpensive. For me, that would be $100 a year.

There are so many factors...

I based my insurance quote off of 70k thinking car is probably worth 52k stock and about 18k in mods i am predicting.

I don't say nothing to the insurance company when I mod...why would I. It sucks if you wreck and lose out, but its no different than if you sold it or traded in...

Get the details to ensure it covers the purchase price and not comparable replacement values.

Not sure I have seen this option before. Are you saying you can add coverage for your engine/transmission/etc as a separate insured item (in case an engine blows due to mods or a transmission etc)? Or is this just to cover losses from an accident when you have mod value in the car, and not if something blows up?

For my quote, it is in case of accident or stolen.

I have USAA insurance and they recently added a feature that will pay 20% more than current value if the car is stolen, totaled, etc. It added $72 for 6 months to my premium for the ZL-1, and I added it to my ZL-1, of course, and my 2 daily drivers too. I also have $5000 additional coverage for accessories that is already part of my policy.

In my case it's only for the cosmetic mods and ceramic coating. Didn't even think I could get customized coverage for the powertrain, my hunch is it would be a tall order to get a reasonable quote for a $10k engine plus all other components.

Careful...sometimes the insurance carrier will not provide any coverage for the car if you indicate it is modified--will just tell you that they decline to provide insurance. Typically, this applies to performance cars.

I sent State Farm receipts for 8k in mods and got $3200 back after a mustang crash(not into people).

It was a pretty good deal IMO since most of those parts(wheels, exhaust) were toast in the collision.
