My friend in high school had a LS5 M4 bench seat Chevelle. That car had tons of torque and did well on the street. Then he blew the LS5 up (Missed 3rd) and installed an L78 396. For sure the car was faster but the torque was MIA. I bet the LS6 helped put some of that torque back. Cool Chevell you have there. Bury yourself in it!

Same here. Everyday I daydreamed about one from about 10 years old until about 1 year and three months ago when I came across the ZL1 1LE reviews. Then I needed this ZLE and went out and ordered one. First try too as the ZLEs aren’t very easy to come by up in Canada.
Still daydream about Chevelles. But not as much as the ZLE I own. I’m 45 years old now. I’m still like a kid daydreaming about cars. But the ZLE gets the most and I own one. But second is SS Chevelles now. One day they will be together I hope. |

I feel the same way. I had my heart set on when I retire I'd do a mild street roller 347 aluminum heads in a 1965 mustang stock HP cast iron exhaust, 5 speed manual, but mostly stock, fastback. The after all the dreaming you have a complete tube frame IRS Mustang with a stroked 351 and after all is said and done, it still would not be as good of a car as my SS. Unless one does something like this:
http://www.mustangandfords.com/featu...sis-yes-please or buys this: http://sscc.us/results_sscc_2019.aspx Plus my 2016 SS is really growing on me, same way my 69 Camaro did. I skipped the 5th gen because truth be told I thought it was awful looking, I went with a Challenger instead. So in many ways, the Camaro is becoming the dream Muscle car, as IMO the Mustang is too much of a chic car (girls don't get mad).

I was lucky enough to get a 440 Dart, I did things to lighten the load and make it an all-around car, headers, aluminum intake, battery in the truck, E body front disk and lower arms (for sway bar hooking points), Direct Connection? road race torsion bars, tie the frame rails, rear swaybar, widen 15 inch cop wheels on all 4 corners, firm feel steering et all. For a while I ran a stroked 400 B block (30 lbs lighter) at 451CID. It really was something the factory could not build. The Mopar magazine guys competed with a 340 Signet and then got smart and put a 440 Signet up in the one lap around America tour... near the same build I had!!!! The 4 door Signet was the most solid ABody made FYI.
https://www.allpar.com/history/mopar/duster-prep.html https://staging.moparaction.com/2016/03/16/one-lap/ that was 30+ plus years ago. Of course, I was working single guy so I could put way more bucks into than Mopar Action Mag, I'm sure my ride was build a whole lot better with attention to detail. Like widen cop rims by stockton wheel. I think I ran Koni dampers too. "The only thing that beat us – by 3/4-sec per lap – was the 2000-lb, carbon-fiber-chassis Mosler Raptor" Fast forward, as you said, you can inject cubic cash into an old car and at best it may do 1 trick well. My Camaro would destroy my Dart in anything but a prep drag race with slicks and that is mainly because it was an auto. I grew up in a time if you wanted fast you better build it yourself. The reason I got an engineering degree is so I could design my own N20 linear rise N20 gear as well as a digital ignition retard setup. I ended up building mainframe computers in Silicon Valley designing ECL cache chips with George Amdahl. So I ain't scared of no electronic gizmos.

I am pretty set on buying something like this before I buy my next modern performance car. In the end of the day, I think buying modern will lead me to always want to replace with whatever newer better version replaces it, but buying your favorite classic car is an itch you can only scratch one way, and nothing else will completely satisfy that dream. One day later down the line I will buy something modern, but I think it would be a 50th Anniversary Porsche 911 with a manual and the clothe hounds tooth interior.

heck yah, I used to build my own radios, and we all remember shop where we built electric motors with some copper and paper clips. I used to program Z80 processors and use ttl circuits and op ams to control stuff.
I was going to design a PSI breakout box and drill in LED down my dash so I would see say a Yellow LED on each PSI of boost, three green LED when peak boost was reached and then three LED or maybe a skull with red eyes glow in overboost. (not kidding) I already purchased the skulls, I may actually fit them to the windshield squirters and maybe their eyes can blow green on max boost... dunno. it would be cool. Guys do this in their GTI, Audi etc in their gauge cluster...

So yelp I don't remember much about the GF (she was hot though), nor work, but I remember the cars I build. Chuck Beck had an outlet for the Beck Spyder around there between Fry's and Amdhal. I finished my BS and went to graduate school at San Jose State. Heck, that nothing, my dad worked for Thomas Edison! In WWII he was under Patton and actually once received verbal orders directly from Patton himself. Something like his cut orders were to take his 1/2 halftracks and double duces back to Cherborg to pickup band and parade equipment for the French to enter Paris, but his verbal orders was to find all the fuel he could, from whatever sources he could find (French and British and civilian) and move it forward. Of course ganddad used to talk about General Lee and Grant in the first person perspective.

This makes me think back probably 9-10 years. In the RR section on "The Corral" someone came on there and made a thread asking how to make his Foxbody handle better than a C6Z. The answer all the serious members gave him was "you don't." He wanted to debate that he could add this or that and make it handle better. They told him that the basic issues that a Foxbody has and a Z06 doesn't is that its chassis is about as stiff as a limp dick, it's got about the worst suspension setup on both ends for good handling, and that the platform is just way out of balance. Then that the Foxbodys 4link is about the dumbest design ever, and even though struts can work fine the Foxbodys front geometry is way off, and basically you need to give it a GEN3 or GEN4 Fbody setup to work well. Even then your still on an old, floppy platform, that's way out of balanced. That even if he gave the Fox enough weigh reduction, power, chassis stiffening, suspension mods, brake and tire to outlap a C6Z it still wouldn't be a purely better handling car, and that the same effort devoted to the Z would just negate the effort put towards the Foxbody. They were very honest for a bunch of people who RR'ed Foxbodys. I can't talk too much crap though. I used to throw way too much money at my old Mustangs and Fbodys trying to give them high-end sports car handling. |
